Tried FSX

Postby Travis » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:04 pm

Since I haven't had a decent computer for awhile now (nearly two years ::)) I have had to resort to simming vicariously through you all.  Fortunately, though, I went to Fry's Electronics (massive warehouse-style computer store) where they had a fairly good comp (2Gb of RAM and I don't know the rest) running FSX and with the X52 stick and throttle on it.

I didn't like the X52 (liked its predecessor better) but I was especially disappointed with FSX!  Not only was the computer running Windows Vista (dodgy if you ask me) but it was also fairly powerful.  That would lend me to believe that running FSX would be a breeze.  When I would switch views, or even just put in any command other than control surface movement or throttle power, the screen would flicker and I would get a brown screen with "etchings" of the aircraft and scenery on it.

Is this how FSX runs on other machines?!  If so, I'll stick with my trusty FS9 and deal with a bit of a shoddier water effects . . . ;)

If this is in the wrong forum, go ahead and move it.

Sounds like it wasn't quite the right computer to run it.  My computer is almost three years old now, and I get an average of 30 fps with things like this...

8-) ;D

So it's working well for me. ;)

I can about run it, but it ain't like running FS9. We are all waiting for the DX10 cards to come out...

I am even thinking about a new build, one specifically designed for FSXtraneous...
emachines T6212; AMD Athlon64 3800+ (2.40 GHz; Venice core); Allied AL-B500E 500W power supply; 2048Mb PC3200 DDR400; Westinghouse LCM-22w2 wide-screen LCD monitor; eVGA e-GeForce 7900 GS KO X16 PCIe video card; Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flight controller;<
