You shouldnt have any problems running it on medium or even lower settings.  :)

Another 512mb of RAM.. and a better video-card and you'll be able to run it on moderate settings..  That's a tough call though.. because you might want to save that money toward a new computer.

For example..  $250 for a good 7950GTX might be better saved for when 8800 cards come down to near that price. Upgrading is always a compromise.. and you gotta be careful dumping money into a platform that's already a couple years old.

The first thin gI would do when you can is upgrade your ram. FSX uses 1.3 gig and more so you definitely need more ram. Fastest that your motherboard will support. Then id look at other things.
AMD P2 1090t CPU,4.1 GHZ. 8Gig DDr3 1600 MHz cas 9, ram, Nvidia GTX 560 ti 1 gig Video, Sound Blaster XFI Extreme audio

If I were you I would cut your losses with FSX and further your experiences with FS9. With all the add-ons out there you could make fs9 look better then the default FSX and you get the better frame rates. Either way I would upgrade to 1gig of ram so you would be able to enjoy both.

my pc is as follows....

Dell 4400
1.65 ghz
1 gb ram
ATI All-In-Wonder

I am able to run FSX at medium-high settings at around 15 FPS with minimal tweaking. You should be fine but don't expect to be able to crank FSX all the way up.

Would FSX run on my system?

Sinclair Spectrum 48K.
3.5 MHz, 8-bit  Zilog Processor.
48K of RAM.
Cassette Recorder.
Suncom Joystick.
Fergusson Television set.

Please help me, I'm 2 years old and I'm desperate to play FSX instead of Attic Attack.

I had a look at the FSX box, and I can't understand the words.

My Dad patted me on the head and said drink your milk up and go to bed, but it didn't help.

...anyone...?

Little Joe.
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Paul, on a system like that, your PC would literally explode if you were to even think about installing FSX.  :P

Tee-Hee...!

..just an example of the daft questions which get posted on the FSX Forum.... daily... ;)...!

(a)  Posers, who know full well that their system will inadequately cope with the demands of FSX...and just want to show-off with their highly superior machines, and put us all to shame....;)...!

(b) The rest, who know perfectly well that it wont, and should be concentrating either on FS 2004...
...or...
..filling in their Microsoft Spread Sheets.... ;)...!

My PC is a bit pants. 1.8Ghz, 512 ram, 128mb graphics. FSX runs smoothly on lowest settings, but the aircraft look terrible on exterior view.

FOR EXAMPLE:

It looks like that all the time, I've left it lo load, and it stays like that even when I turn the aircraft settings up to highest.

I really don't have the money for a new PC, so I'll probably upgrade. I found a wholesaler in the UK that sells CPUs, RAM, everything. 1gb ram for
