Don't feel stupid - or don't feel you're on your own. FSX has made us all feel that way.
I still find it hard to get to the cfg file using the address. I just go to Search, put in fsx.cfg, and get a long list. The correct one is easy to identify from its icon (Notepad). Then put a shortcut to the desktop so you don't have to hunt again.
I sometimes wish I had never found it anyway. If you leave it alone, and just work the sliders I am beginning to think the result is much the same.
TweakFS have a really good free utility called CFG Editor (or close) and it really is good. I have become such a tweak addict - hooked on it by NickN, Miltestpilot and other pushers, that I have pinned the editor to the Start panel so I can get a fix anytime I feel the craving.
