Video Card and FPS....

Postby bowler_man » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:00 pm

Would a video card upgrade help improve FPS? Or are they totally unrelated? What would help FPS/graphics (pretty much overall performance) more, a video card upgrade or a RAM upgrade???

Lets start with the basics. Would you mind showing us your specs? :-? The main and simplest thing for increase in FPS is to close all windows and programs you don't need as FS is a very demanding program. ;) Just show us your specs and lets see what we can do. From my knowledge (and its not that good) the video card should improve graphics and i think a bit of FPS.

RAM i don't know a lot about in FS so lets the others help you.

Lets get somethings straight here.  ;)

RAM - does exactly what its name suggests (incase you don't know, Random Access Memory). Accesses files faster. Upgrading this may result in about 1 FPS difference. It DOES however remove stuttering, and helps load textures faster.

Video Card - upgrading this will improve graphics, as well as FPS. This is where everything related to 3D graphics is processed, so upgrading this will provide the biggest boost in FPS.

So to answer your question - yes.  :)

When I upgraded from a 128mb Graphic Card to a 256mb Graphic Card, I noticed a vast improvement in Frame Rate.
