How did I do this?

Postby rootbeer » Thu May 17, 2007 11:41 am

I went somewhere within FS10 and found that my target frames per second was set to 20 and some sort of filtering was set to bilinear. For flips, I set the target rate to 30 and the filtering to anti-aliasing-o-tropo-scopic or something like that. My FS10 experience has taken a giant leap forward! It actually runs about as well as FS9. I want to get back there and fiddle with it some more, but I can't figure out how I got there. Any tips to do so?

It's in settings->customize->graphics from the main menu, or it's options->settings->display while you're in flight.  Setting your target frames locks the maximum frame rate at whatever value you choose.  If you set it to 5 FPS, you'll never go above 5 FPS, no matter what your computer can do, so you want to set it as low as you can stand, but high enough that it is smooth, so the computer can devote more resources to it, or something like that. :P ;)

I clicked on this and clicked on that until I found it again. I have set the FPS to 40 and have set some sort of anti-aliasing panel transparency to 50%. I have no idea what that does. I saw no transparency in the 2D panel of the Baron, so search me...

How do I get rid of (every time on start-up) the swimmy, wobbly outside views? I like the view to track solidly on the plane. I hate that gradual transition garbage!

Rootbeer, you are going to have to tweak you FSX.cfg file like everyone else to make panning and views smoother.

The 2D transparency settings you are speaking of need not be changed. 2D panels suck to begin with in FSX so I would stay in the VC and forget about 2D.

Did you install SP1 yet? It does help quite a bit but you also have to remember that if you are infested with virus or adware bugs as you mentioned in another area of the forum FSX is going to have a very hard time running on your machine. It needs the resources those bugs will eat up.

If you add this entire entry:

[BufferPools]
PoolSize=2500000

to the bottom of the FSX.cfg list using NOTEPAD it should help quite a bit with the view issues. You do need SP1 installed and you need to get that system cleaned up or your FSX and FS9 will never run the way it should

Thanks, Nick. I will have to try it in about a week as I am going home for vacation until the 25th. I leave tomorrow from KRNO to KIAD, my digital camera over my shoulder...

No SP1 installed yet. I didn't know it was available. How do I get it?
