Miltestpilot:  I note in an earlier post on this thread that you run multiple monitors from two cards.  I am like you running matrox triplehead2Go, and a fourth screen using the second outlet from the one card only.  I understand that FSX will never support SLI, but that two cards might assist in the rendering needed for the four screens in total.  I know the matrox although only a splitter box does seem to give a performance hit.  On the other hand I could never, and won't, return to one screen, the experience is just totally better.  I'd be grateful for your advice.  A second 8800GTX is only money!!

This may be the longest non-post count building thread in the history of SimV...  ;)

Sorry for the mixup Miltestpilot.  If Jimcooper is still reading this thread I would be grateful for his response.  Otherwise I will PM him.  He also mentions something called crossfire - is this a particular setting, or hardware, or both to improve multi-card, multi-monitor performance?

Nick:  I hope that you are feeling better.  For what it's worth I have made an extraordinary improvement simply by shifting AA to the card and only x2 (x8800) and unchecking it in the game.  I know that is counter to Phil Taylor and others, but it has got rid of the micro-stutters that were making the game quite unpleasant.  Sure I still can't get into Boeing with Complex/Normal (and relatively low tree:buildings autogen) 200ft on approach without stuttering but otherwise very much better.  We keep trying and praying to the Gods of Redmond to get the SP1 out.  You and others have always made it clear that SP1 is not a magic bullet, but on my rig a 20% performance lift would be significant.

Every year I do the right thing and get a flu shot,  and every year it seems to give me the flu.  Is there a correlation there that I have missed?

Wise words on the shots indeed.   On AF I have never fully understood the difference between trilinear and anisotropic in the options drop-down:  is anisotropic different in character or simply an incremental step on trilinear which is after all a level of AF.  I have left AA of all together, gone to maximum resolution, and anisotropic.  Smoothness is greatly enhanced but of course shimmering and dancing is worse, and in some cases positively distracting.  I have been getting around Seattle with Complex/Normal but should I drop autogen back and give myself some AA relief.  (Not Alcoholics Anonymous, Microsoft didn't tell us that FSX needed to be taken with wine).

Oh and I will be away from my gaming machine in the third week of May also, but just for a week.  I will be finding out just how much it will cost to fix the osmosis in my fibreglass hull.  However I might have a chance to read the forums before I install SP1 which might help me avoid some of the more obvious boo-boos of which I am highly capable.  Keep in touch through the forums on technical matters, and by email to tell me how the camping and fishing is going.  I take it from your email handle that you are a Klondike fan.  I might get Alaska cinematic and fly around that country in a Beaver or the C208.
