[quote]OK.

I have the same settings as before, however I have scenery radius at 4.5 (large), and cloud coverage density at max. Autogen numbers are at dense:
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=670 <---I got this number from scenery radius numbers 4.5 \ 3.5=1.2857. 868 \ 1.2857 = 670.
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=335 <---Half above

[BufferPools]
PoolSize=2080000

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=108
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=17 <---I raised it from 15 as I find 17 more fluid with little cost.
FTTF=.29

I also changed Anisotropic filtering to application controlled and upped filtering from trilinear to

Is your hardware really that bad?

I thought you could do at least a 400 (=1000/500) load on trees and buildings...

That really not bad Bjorn

hes running an x850 xt PE 256 as I recall

FS9 = 600/300 so he is not that far off with FSX, especially since he raised his scenery radius

1000/500 is more in a 7800-7900GS - x1900xt + range assuming decent processor support

Nick: serves me right.  First FSX which was running really well, now has started running like a dog again, so worried about what Reg Mechanic might have done I tried a restore point.  The system could not carry out a restore, at that or any other restore point.  So tomorrow I will have to get my Pro to hopefully repair, or worse reinstall Vista.  I certainly hope that won't be the case.  I should have asked you first!

For FSX those would be considered med-low grade cards.

You do not get to medium grade cards until you hit 7900GTX 512 - x1950xtx

Meduim high would be the 8800 and the upcoming value version of the R600

High will be G90 and R700

Ultra High will be at the end of next year

Nick: I've taken it in to my Pro and told him its a gaming machine and that I did not want it to run at default or auto.  I wanted an increase in FSB and some small overclocking of the CPU. Interestingly enough he was quite enthusisatic about doing this once I asked him.  I also reminded him, that good sense or not I would be in the market for the next best thing at the end of the calendar year, GPU and probably CPU given that the game is CPU bound, so I would take the risk on changes to the present system.  He suggested that the fan speed would need to be increased and be noisier, but that's ok, though I bet he tries to upsell me on a power unit (that was upgraded a year ago).  He is also going to repair or reinstall Vista - whatever is necessary to clean up the mess I made of the registry.  Oh heck, its only money.  But on the other hand its way cheaper than owning my own plane as I did once.

I'll report in a couple of days whether there is a measurable improvement.  Or you will receive notice of my early demise.

I can easily up them to over 1000 and still get it to run perfectly fine, however once I add payware aircraft and weather, that's where it bogs it down.

Anyway, better than those people who run without autogen! So; yeah I COULD run it with autogen at 1200/600, however then I'd have to sacrifice other things I really like. Eg. Scenery radius making everything far away look terrible.

Nick, in terms of flight simming, how would you compare my X850XT PE to other videocard like the 8600GTS, 7600GT, 7900GS. I would think that in flight sim, it may only be slightly slower than a 7900GS the memory is only slightly slower? Is that right?

P.S: The reason I am only talking in memory is my X850 GPU dosn't seem to be stressed out AT ALL playing fsX.

7900GS is 43Gb/s data rate

you are only 32Gb/s

The 7900 has 20 pipes.. you only have 16

your card is considered borderline medium low for FSX, closer to the low side. Sorry, you are low grade for FSX but no where near as low as a 6600GT. Because of the bandwidth but less pipes you are just under a 7800GS in performance with yours clocked

You are fortunate you are running as you are and probably only because you are clocking the card till it screams.

SP1 will be a big help for you but you are always going to be 256MB limited too. FSX really wants to see a minimum of 512 for decent performance
