Finished cutting out the last perf hole.

Image

Image

Fired her up and read my idle temps.

Before perf hole cut out at idle

CPU - 36C
MB - 35C

After perf hole cut out at idle

CPU - 34C
MB - 30C

How does it sound?

I only had one 80mm fan on the back of my tower that was also blocked by perforated metal and I cut out the hole to fit a 120mm fan. I have an 80mm on the side too. I replaced the ones that came with the tower with fans that use a fluid dynamic bearing design. (guess who pointed me to those)

Boy, what a difference. Not only did the temps drop but tower was much quieter.

Its not the idle temps that get the real benefit of doing that. It's really the load temps!!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Even if the system only displays a 2c drop, that 2c under a load is really quite a bit. It means you are getting that nasy stuff off the electronics faster.

That tower is really looking good!

I think you did a great job on that project. That tower is ready for those heat generating, power hungry DX10.2 (I think that is what they are up to now) cards when they are released and with the BIOS upgrade you did, a processor and memory upgrade when ever you are ready.

Thanks. It's amazing what you can do with sheet metal cutters..

As for the MB & Ram, I'm gonna see how far I can push it. I wont be doing another upgrade until Summer and go for 4 gigs when I get Vista.

But I forgot to sign a prenup lol..

CPU Configuration

CPU Internal Thermal Control - DISABLED
Limit CPUID Maxval - Disabled
Enhanced C1 (C1E) -DISABLED
Execute Disable Bit - DISABLED
Virtualization Technology - DISABLED
Enhanced Speedstep - Disabled

And try it again

Same routine...

If it does not work leave those all disabled for now...

then set it back up and raise LDT to 4x

same routine.. try it again

If still no go, put LTD back to 3x and let me know

Ok, I disabled everything in cpu configuration and for a minute I thought it worked. But...

At 1320/660, my computer booted but hanged on the opening screen at 3x LTD. That was the farthest I could get. On 4 LTD, I got nowhere.

At 1312/656, it wouldn't boot up at all. Not even at 3 & 4x LTD.

Back to where we started: 1300/650

Good information

I assume you did try the memory relaxed numbers too 5-7-7-19-31 1c and they netted nothing

Ok... We need to do a little investigative work. Under the FREQUENCY CONTROL you will find settings.

This is all I can see:

Image

If there are any other settings in that area that are not listed in that image, post them.

Next,
SYSTEM CLOCK MODE has several options. Each option may bring other settings available. What I would like you to do is check the follwoing and list all the sub-settings that come with each option you choose

CPU PRECISION TWEAKER

all settings and their subs

CPU MEM MANUAL

all settings and their subs

MEM PRECISION TWEAKER

all settings and their subs

I do not know if this will net us anything but I need to know what is there in order to decide which way to go next

Sorry about the repeated tests but this is what overclocking and learning a system is all about.
