Standing by..

The forums are going up and down. I have not been able to get on the board and post for a while.

I assume you are set back up the way we had it 2 pages back, but with LTD at 3X?

Lets start by posting the voltage and temp readings. I want to verify the CPU temp

This needs to be done slow because there is a break-in period for the thermal compound. I do not want to just jump right into a high overclock. We will work it up where we left of and where the system because problematical.

Check.

LTD @ 3x

Vcore - 1.38
CPU - 36 C
MB - 35 C

Note:

My system crashed last night after my last post. I tried getting back on but no luck. It was an unusual crash. Everything just froze on my screen. No blue screen of death, no nothing. Just froze.

This morning I moved my RAM around, repluged my CPU & swiftec fan back in, retightened the Zalman screws & disconnected my CMOS battery. One thing I noticed is my computer doesn't boot as fast as it used to..?

I assume the swifty is sitting strait and level on the chipset as is the Zalman on the CPU. The Zalman will rotate a bit because of how the mount is designed. As long as it wont 'rock' and all it does is rotate left and right a small amount it should be mounted correctly.

The temps look really good.. much lower than they were...  but The crash you describe sounds very much like a heat crash or a memory lock.

Also, the system may not like the 3x LDT setting. Did this crash occur after setting to 3x or had you been ruuning that prior to installing the new devices?

I noticed the Zalman does rotate a little just how you described it. The Swiftec is as straight as a board.

I haven't touched the LDT settings until now so I don't think the crash had anything to do with it.

Ok.. Perhaps you had one of the items you moved was out of alignment. It does not take much at all.

The temps you posted are awesome compared to what it was running

Before                 After
CPU=46               36
MB=  48               35

Those are not load readings after a flight of course but still, I have never seen you post temps that low since this started.

Not sure why the system may boot slower other than you just did a complete maintenance and sometimes in the first few days it may require the boot files get hashed out a few times for the optimizer.

You can force a manual boot optimize by running the command:

rundll32 advapi32,ProcessIdleTasks

and then boot O&O Defrag and run a SPACE defrag

Make sure these 2 files are indeed there and the only ones in the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder

Layout.ini
NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.pf

If there are more files in that folder that the two I listed above, let me know before doing anything because the prefetch system may not be correctly turned off.

If all seems to be working OK now, lets do some basic clocking and see how it fairs.

Ok.. I am going to post some numbers to start with in a few minutes then I have to leave for the afternoon. You have the base numbers which are working in case something does not fair right. What we want to do is set it up, fly the numbers and then if stable, and while still in FSX, check the system temps and post them.. you dont need to post the image, just the numbers.

Sure you did.. the numbers I gave you to start today (with exception to the memory being 2.1v) were the ones you were running until you had the strange crash after cleaning the startup files.

I want to see how it does now at 2.0v and a reduced LTD and also check the temps as we go.

I have to run.. I have a meeting with a 60ft lady that needs a bath and some minor polishing. I will be back later today.

Scroll down to Reply #262.. about 8 posts down the thread... that was your last good set of values before it started acting strange and showing a cold boot issue

You were succesful at the numbers you are on now, but running LDT 4x and memory 2.1v

Reply #268 confirmed it.. 2nd to last in that thread
