Problem Loading FSX DeLuxe

Postby Bubblehead » Fri May 11, 2007 11:20 pm

Microsoft and I have been at this for quite sometime now. I bought an FSXDeLuxe and I as pointed out before, I had problem loading it in my new PC. The problem was that after it asked for Disc 2, nothing happens after I click OK. I had my PC looked at in the computer service shop and I was told nothing is wrong with my PC. It was determined by MS game tech that my copy of the FSX DeLuxe was no good. I returned it and MS sent me a replacement copy. When I loaded it, it said it will perform an upgrade of FSX. The Option window did not work so I could not browse to assign a different hard drive. while loading, I could see the progress statements shift from one hard drive to a different one so I aborted the load. I called MS about this and they sent me another copy of FSX DeLuxe. More problems. This time it quit loading and a warning stating:"Error 1722. There is a problem with this Window Installer package. A program run as part of this setup did not finish as expected. contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (MSI.chm) or MSDN for more informaton.

I was able to load successfully a copy of FSX Standard. So I guess I'll just ditch the DeLuxe version.

I will always keep saying this: DVDs are not design to be a file container ,Is not difficult to see "digital Video Disc" and its made and develop for video purposes, something new is has to be made, like a CD-room but with 5gb of space,in the main time we all have to paid the concequences for using a Video container as a softwares containers

I remember having this discussion when CDs first came out  :) Of course back then.. the first version of windows I ever installed came of six 3.5" floppys and a lot of software was still on 5.25" floppies  ::)

The problem then (and now) is that people (and OEM guys) build computers withe $29.95 optical drives that aren't reliable for much more than year. And that's fine if you're a gamer and rebuilding every year.

Throw mass-burned DVDs in with year old, budget, optical drives and yes, I agrree with Alrot...

So I'm not the only one out of step. But why does MS keep sending replacement discs which loads completely different from the store (boxed) models. In the first place it sttes that "will perform an upgrade of FSX". To me that meant that I already have FSX DeLuxe loaded (no so) and that this copy is only to update. Also this replacement copy does not give the option of selecting the HD. It will only load on the OS (default) HD. During setup, there were no pictures whatsoever, only progress bar. Sounds more like MS gave us an expensive bag of worms with this game.

I'm sending this info out just in case others may face the same problem.
Background:  The new copy of FSX DeLuxe I just bought did not work, problem with Disc 2 not loading. No hardware problems when checked out by a PC shop. Contacted MS and they concluded it was a bad copy of FSX. They sent me a  replacemnt copy but still no joy. Keep getting error messages. Went back to MS people and they guided me thru troubleshooting. After correction, I was able to load the game successfully.  Note: Before reinstalling the game, the PC must be free of files and folders from the previous load. FSX must not show at all during search plus it must be complietely out of the Add/Remove list.  I downloaded the Windows Cleanup Utility (kb/290301). Then I downloaded and ran(kb/928080). After rebooting, I was able to load the FSX DeLuxe with no problem.
