Simulation Rate Increase.. Do you?

Postby SubZer0 » Fri May 04, 2007 9:11 pm

Hey guys, and ladies, of course. I've just become a member of the forums here, though I've been reading your posts for a while. I've learned much from you.

Now to get to my point. Do you guys ever increase the simulation rate whenver flying long flights on jets or on any plane? Just something that crossed my mind and thought I'd ask.

Not anymore. I've flown in a PIPER CUB!!!! (slow) for about 1500 miles coast to coast. If you're determined then you can get it done.

Wow lol. You guys are really into this, I see. When I started out I used to do it often, but now I do it seldom. I like the realism too, though I still look at the plane from the outside 'cus it just looks nice lol.

I look from the outside to look for landmarks. I dont fly jets. I did increase time once in a Maule from Trenton, NJ to El Centro, Cali

Way back in the days of FS98 I did it a bit but have not done it since. If I don't want to do a long flight you have a whole world full of airports. Sit down and make some kind of short hop flightplan that you can save and come back to with ease. It helps keep me involved in the sim :D

I do most of the time, but that's because I don't have time.  I try to not use it much, I will climb to altitude at 1X and then increase the rate to sorta skip cruise.  I do it because the flights I do (normally 3h+, longest 13 hours and 45 minutes) just are TOO long for the time I have to fly them.  When I fly for my VA I only use 4X though.

i use TrackIR in the VC to search for landmarks...

speaking of which, i dont ever speed up the time, because with the scenery around me, i use TrackIR to look out of the windows and stuff to check out the view.  if i ever need to look down, i just turn the plane on its side and look at the downward window.

if u dont hav TrackIR, you should get it - it does not dissapoint. ;)

I limit my flights to two hours maximum.

During cruise, I simply do something else, like webbrowsing on my laptop or reading a book.

The only time I speed the sim up, is when testing I plane I'm building..  You know, to get it up to altitude or to get a MP/RPM/airspeed setting to stabilize. When you tweak and run and tweak and run.. you NEED to save a little time. Other than that, never. If a flight gets to be longer than I'm in the mood for, or something comes up and I need to stop... I just find the nearest airport and land.

I'm currently taking a 172 from Jacksonville, FL  to Portland, OR.  Every time I land (normally legs of less than 50nm), I'll Google the airport and town. Kind of like some virtual sight-seeing. It's just not the same fun when you cheat to get there..

Doesnt that sorta defeat the purpose of flying for a VA if you are gonna speed it up? Or do you just divide the hours you log by 4?

I would get it if I had the money. Unfortunately I have this computer to pay off by June, and a few holidays and birthdays for which I need presents.. not to mention I also need to save up for a car by August. :(

bummer...  if you ever find urself looking for an item for FS, definately consider TrackIR.

good luck getting one ;)
