New to FSX!

Postby CWL » Tue May 01, 2007 7:54 am

Hi,
After finding a good price on FSX deluxe edition, i have ordered it and it will be coming tomorrow woop woop.

The last FS i played was 98 back in the day at meigs!

So i'm just wondering are there any must have recommended files, scenery, planes etc that i should get in preperation?

And any idea how my system will hold up?
Intel core 2 duo - e6400 [2X2.13Ghz]
1Gb of 667hz ram
Gforce 7600GT [overclocked]

Thats the main bits there!

Can't wait to play this sim tomorrow!!

Edit - I remember back in the day for 98 we had to use a flight nav program to map out our flights etc....is there an inbuilt one this time around?

Your system will hold up very well, but don't expect getting good frames and perfect visuals. No one can max out FSX at the moment.

If you've got some spare money, get some more Ram. One Gig is okay, but two will improve performance a good bit.

As for add-ons, there's plenty out there. Most of the later aircraft for FS9 will work in FSX as well. As for sceneries, it's a bit more complicated, since only very few will work okay in FSX.

on most mainboards there is room for 4 slots of ram so you can still keep the 2 512's and still add a 1g and it wont affect the ram thats already there

Don't be too optimistic.
Before being able to do such a flight, you'll first need to read, understand and apply the various tweaks to improve the FSX performance, because with your current config (even with an additionnal Gig of RAM) you WILL NOT be able to fly on the full defaut FSX.

... But you'll be able to enjoy a correctly tweaked one :)

but remember people, with SP1 coming round the corner, plus the tweaking, could mean FSX will run pretty good on that system. ;)

CWL.  It is important that your RAM is exactly the same.  In your case you would need to add 2x512, or replace it with two 1 gig sticks of high quality fast DDR RAM.  There are plenty of references to good Corsair and other RAM in the FSX and SLI thread.  Don't buy slow and cheap, or your FSX will be slow also.

This is my problem...people are saying different things.

Some say just stick it in and your good to go.

So Macca - you say I need to buy more 2X512? Why wouldn't sticking a 1gb stick work?

I have corsair value select ddr2 667mhz ram
