Airport signs

Postby fourstar40 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 8:32 pm

I was wondering why the airport signs look white? When I am flying at night or at dusk the signs are and look the way they are supposed to. But during the day the signs  are plain white. No lettering or numerals are visible. Also the progressive taxi indicator arrows are white in the day time and yellow at night and dusk.

I had the same problem until I upgraded to a 256mb graphics card which allowed me to increase my graphic settings in FSX a bit. Now, no more white signs or progressive taxi arrows.

Its the video card, I have the same problem.  There is a setting for your video card (Shaders I think) in the fsx.cfg that can fix it, and also lets the jetways move.  However it is a frame rate killer.

Maybe try raising the settings slightly, see if it makes any difference.   You can always put them back again.  I save the settings when I change, first one is `dafault` next one is `test` and maybe `newtest` or use dates `test180407`, then you can easily revert back or flit between the settings.

I have a 256 MB card but it is a pci card. My pc is not capable of taking a pci-e card. I have 1024 mb ram and the sim runs pretty smooth. I can run it smoothly with the buildings at the dense level and the autogen objects on low but for some reason the signs are plain white during the day. I have changed and played with the settings but to no avail. Oh well, I guess it will have to be that way. It's not like I can't fly it but it would be nice to know what runway is what at an airport that doesn't have a tower.

Find the display.cfg in your main FSX folder. Open it and look for your video card. If you find it look for you need to find the shader control and change it to a 1...like this

NVIDIA GeForce FX5200
;----------------------------------------------------------------------
[000010DE:00000320:nv4_disp.dll]
PanelAsTexture=0
[000010DE:00000320:nv4_disp.dll.1]
MinDriverRev=6.14.0010.4523
PanelAsTexture=2
Shader20Plus=1

^^ Although changing this setting has a big impact on frames.  I tried it once, my fps went from 20 to 4.

All you have to do to fix this problem is to open the display settings and turn the global texture setting up to medium

Not quite always the answer pilot dude.  Some video cards don't like FSX.  Mine does the same thing, and the only fix is to alter the display.cfg, which kills frames.  About the only solution is to upgrade, and I'm too broke to do that.

well there shouldnt be any need to upgrade your card right away...i am running a card very similar i have a 256mb ati AGP card
your should be able to support the shader setting where it is.......have you tryed running with the global terrain textures and senory complexity settings turned to high?

I am running the same card and have the same problem.  Changing the shader setting does show the signs, but as I said before, kills the frames.
