You finally got it loaded?

How did you get it fixed?

FSX.cfg  C:\Documents and Settings\your account name\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

you must have hidden files and folders in Windows disabled to find that.

And put a shortcut on your desktop so it is never lost again:  well not until the next reinstall that is.

My new FSX DeLuxe copy was no good. I came to that conclusion because when I dug up my copy of the FSX Standard I had no problem installing and running it.

Got the path to the config written down.

Thanks.

Ahhhhh! I can't find the Application Data. I checked my other PC with the FSX installed and the path you listed was there. By the way if it means anything my new PC is still devoid of junk. My OS is in drive C while my FSX is in drive G (Raptor) if that means anything. It has to be there somehow. How do I get Application Data in my new PC? When I did Search, FSX cfg was not there.

Your conclusion may still be wrong. The install can be affected by other DVD software running in the system as stated in the other thread. This can happen from disk-to-disk because of many reasons and just because one copy installs fine, the other may not be defective, but it is still a possibility you do have a bad disk.

There are many times I have seen programs such as NERO or Roxio cause a driver disk or other install CD/DVD not to work in my secondary DVD drive and they work fine in my primary drive. If I uninstall those titles or shut down their boot systems, my disks read fine in the secondary drive.

CD and DVD read/burn software, including simple DVD players and creators such as Intervideo DVD, boot TSR drivers and ASPi layers that can cause disk read failures.

A defective disk in your case is however still possible.

Even some backup software does it.  But then you could uninstall from one machine, go install on another instead, then run the backup restore to put it back on the first machine.  So I guess that has to be protected against too.

I suppose there could be a variety of underlying reasons why the FSX DeLuxe copy did not work. The service shop tech said that he could not even complete loading the first disc and he was getting an error  (1305). I tried loading it in my other PC and it was still no go. The bottom line is I finally got FSX working in my new PC.  Thanks again gents.
