what would i need......

Postby FiGHtA_PiLoT » Mon Apr 16, 2007 7:47 pm

hey all,

I just got a new pc recently, here are the specs:

model:
LENOVO 738727U

CPU:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2
Dual Core Processor
3800+

RAM:
2046.0625 MB (2 gigs)

GFX:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800
GTX 768 MB

Microsoft Windows Vista

Now, those specs run FSX ok, but i still get lag. the lag isnt too bad, like it doesnt lock up, but i still get it. Would upping the RAM to 4 gigs eliminate the lag? Thanks to anyone who replies.

this isnt quite my field, but more of a hardware question.

personally, u just hav to play around with the settings, because i think FSX does just fine with 2Gb of RAM.  4Gb is good, but for performance in FSX, i think it might not be worth the money...

FS Water Configurator+ has new modifications in the works, plus DirectX 10, Service Pack
1, and Radeon HD 3+ Series support.

Exactely what you need.
Your hardware is OK. Now you need to play a little bit with the FSX.cfg to apply the various tweaks. :)

The problem is the processor. The 3800+ (X2 or not) is completely bottle-necked and choked between the 8800 and FSX

Start there with silders and work through it

I suspect your settings in the FSX config file will be something like:

Assuming you found the FSX.cfg file

Also, make SURE you install the MS dual core hotfix and the AMD driver/optimizer as outlined here:

If you dont, you can expect stutters and drags in WindowsXP using a dual core in games

mmm, I have a similar AMD setup which whilst not perhaps being the best is mostly on ultra high, giving excellent graphics from a Geforce 7600GT, good FPS and extremely stable.  No memory problems whatsoever.  People buy to suit there own pockets and likes/dislikes.  I used to be pro Intel, not any more, swapped to AMD and not ever going back whilst I have a choice.

I haven`t done it yet, not felt a need to.  But the 3800+ is also extremely easy to overclock but retains that stable system too when carried out correctly.  It out performs other models higher up the scale in the process, without causing excessive heat.  Though adequate cooling has to be employed as well as decent Arctic Silver used for safety.

ok, im stumped :P

This is the main question: if i get 3 gigs, will i still have to edit the FSX.cfg file? because if i ruin FSX doing that, i wont be a happy camper because i have tons of scenery and aircraft add-ons that took me awhile to get.

A hardware upgrade doesn't mess up any FSX settings.
