Relocating HD

I have been unsuccessful in loading my copy of FSX into my new PC. Halfway into the load, it will suddenly quit and warn about a file that is corrupt and thus unable to continue with the load. So I presume that my copy of the FSX is no good. However, I do have a good copy of the FSX and FS9 in a SATA hardrive  in my other older PC. Will it work with no problem if I simply transfer the HD to my new upgraded PC?  My new PC was designed for the FSX so if I want to play the game I may have to buy another copy of the FSX. Any advise?

You could try reloading FSX from the discs and manually transferring all you addons and log book manually.

That's what I've been trying to do. I've tried loading the program but someplace down the process, it will quit and send out a notice to the effect that it is unable to continue because of some corrupt file. I have two HDs. One a Raptor 74G and the other a regular 7200 RPM SATA. I've been trying to load it on the regualr SATA. I'll try loading it on the Raptor and see what happens. If there's still no joy, I'll disconnect the HD with the FSX in it from another PC and do a load on an empty Raptor 36G of that PC. If still no joy, my copy of the FSX must've been corrupted somewhere along the line.

Are you trying to load it onto a HD on a new computer or a new external hard drive?

OK. i got this new powerful computer. I tried loading FSX but the setup would not complete. I tried it three times and each problem occurred in different phases of the setup. I tried loading into a different drive. But at the point when I was suppose to insert Disk 2 which I did, the DVD drive kept repeating to insert the disk. So I had to cancel. Maybe something is wrong with the DVD drive (a Lite-On DVD+RW) but it worked when I tried other DVD programs such as a movie. Then could it be Disc 2 that was causing the problem? Hadn't taken the discs out of the box since I first loaded it in my other PC. So what do you think I should try next? I hate to buy another copy if there's nothing wrong with the one I got.

Try removing FSX from your new computer and then reinstalling it. something like that happened to me I went into control panel and removed it then deleted all fsx files and reinstalled it.

I tried installing it using a different DVD drive but still no joy. Since I have this program installed in my other PC, do you think that this software has some sort of copy protection so that it cannot be installed in a different computer? Just a thought. I will call a number from Microsoft for the possibility of getting a replacement disk.

Bubble there are a couple of things you can do before that stage. Firstly check the disk is clean. Next after uninstalling the old version clean the registry (if you don't have something like Registry Mechanic then you can use EasyCleaner, it is free and available quite widely). Then try a re-install. Sometimes the registry entries are what causes the problem

I did both but still no joy. Here's what's happening.
During the loading, the process stops with the following messages:

"Error 1304. Error writing to file F:\Microsoft Games\scenery\cvx 2511.bgl. Verify that yuou have access to that directory.

Retry or Cancel.

There's also a message box appearing in the lower right corner stating:

" Windows - Delayed Write Failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for the file F:\Microsoft Games\Scenery\0300\scenery\cvx 2505.bgl. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elswhere."

One thing strange regarding the path. No mention of "Flight Simulator X".
