When I go onto the GPS to find an ILS frequency of a runway, sometimes I'll run into a "LOC" frequency. What is that?

LOC= localizer frequency
 
This is the frequency you set in NAV1 in order to pick up the ILS signal. 8-)

I thought that's what the ILS frequency was. Do they do the same thing?

They're similar. An ILS has a localizer (keeps you lined up with the runway).. AND a glidescope (keeps you on  the descent angle)..

A localizer only, has no glidescope. Your descent is marked (don't go below a certain altitude until past a certain point) or timed (descend at a certain airspeed for X time to a decision height)..
