water in fsx

I noticed with screen shots ( my computer doesn't have that great of graphics) that the water textures were amazing, and maybe a bit too flashy.  I don't have much experience with good graphics though... ;)

Everyone has their own taste when it comes to water. It's like asking a customer which color is best for a sports car.

waves too large....especially for rivers lakes etc.....even the download to reduce the waves didn't seem that effective...still, its obviously the major attraction in fsx

Water on 2.0x in fsX makes the water in Europe look retarded.  ;)

I think it's not good enough as games like Far Cry have been doing these effects for years.

I don't know. The water in FSX looks real enough to me compared to these actual photos taken by Dyl Roberts.

http://www.dylroberts.co.uk/Anglesey/Album2.htm

Note that the shots you see here are taken in Ireland and notice how the sun reflects off the water in real life as it does in FSX.

I'm not trying to put down your opinion or anything like that, I'm just stating an observation based on several photos that I found on a website.

And games like Lock On can reflect everything without halving performance.

i rather disappointed with the water.  fine, its reflecting now, great, im so happy...

but wat i wanna see is 3d swells using the geometry shader in DX10.  then ill be happy.  because the water up-close (as in seaplane in spot view), just doesnt make me happy...

Well, it's till pethetic the reflections are either on or off. With reflections on it halves fps. WIth reflections off the water looks terrible, IMO, worse than fs9. They should of atleast implemented some Lock On style water where it gives a slightly fps hit.

I have a Crysis HD video showing it in DX10, it shows that water and let me tell you, it looks AMAZING! The whole video was recorded at over 60fps too! DX10 is gonna rock.

I like LO-MAC, too, but comparing it (a "closed" sim limited to one region in the world) to FSX (an "open" sim in every regard) is simply wrong.

It's like comparing a tank to a VW...

Uh, one's for action and the other is for pure leisure? ;D

I also use to play Apache Havoc by Razorworks. I have to say that the graphics were pretty well-made for its time [DX9 hardware wasn't event out yet during this time] and I loved it for its entertainment value. But just like LOMAC, it only provided a map [a very big map with a dynamic campaign] that is strictly confined to just one three areas in the world. Not only that, it wasn't all that flexible. Heck, no mods were made even after a year since it first came out.

Then we have software like the IL-2 series. IL-2 has a ton of great graphics and can be regularly updated [although the update process is rediculous at best]. Not only that, you can merge several versions of IL-2 together to create one massive sim. It also featured a very stable multiplayer experience. But just like LOMAC and Apache Havoc, the IL-2's maps [in all versions] were strictly confined; and if you went beyond the boundary, all you will see is open space with nothing on it. Above all, it doesn't allow for much mods except for repaints.

What do these pieces of software have in common? Just like Gears of War, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty, their maps are confined and they are only made action. The FS series is a whole different level where you can do everything, anywhere in the world.

But even FS has its own drawbacks. It has a habit of being very demanding; and because everyone modifies FS in different ways, you'll tend to see strange things while you're in MP [jumbos flying like fighter jets, cessnas hovering over the ground by 10 feet, etc]. Not only that, every PC is extremely unique to the point where FS doesn't perform well as expected on most computers [there is just too much variety and people have a habit of doing strange things with their computers].

Nah.

One is limited in use and numbers and is made for short period endurance (war conditions...), the other one is for the average joe's everyday use and has to hold up at least six years.
