RAM

Postby ThatOnePerson » Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:35 am

Right now I'm using all 4 slots, 2 512mb and 2 256mb total is 1.5 gigs. If I pop out the 2 256's and put in 2 1 gig sticks making the total 3 gigs will it improve my FSX performance at all or would the improvement not even be noticeable?

System currently:
Pentium 4 HT
BFG 7950 GT OC
1.5 gigs of ram

A neat little thing if your on Vista is to boost RAM with the space left on your USB sticks (Over 256MB), so I plug in 2 of my 512MB USB sticks into my comp... and hey presto 1 extra GIG! And the performance is quite noticable!

Wise decision, my friend. It's always best to wait some time so that the kinks can be worked out in the woftware.

Check your motherboard documentation before investing in the extra RAM.  One of my coworkers bought an extra Gig to put in his Dell box, bringing it up to 3 Gig.  The BIOS showed the 3 Gig, but Windows (both XP and Vista) still only showed 2 Gig.  Turns out the BIOS on his Dell will only report 2 Gig to a 32-bit OS.

Don't forget that USB sticks of RAM are slower than the proper sticks in your machine!

Yep, slower indeed... but much faster than your virtual memory on your hardrive, I think :)
