Installing FS-X

Postby ksporry » Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:47 pm

Hi guys,

Recently I bought FS-X DeLuxe. When I put the disk in my PC nothing happened. I tried to use"start>run> E:\autorun" and I tried using the "add program" feature in control panel without success. My PC simply cannot read the disk. At the moment it takes about 15-25 minutes for my PC to tell me that the disk is either corrupt or in a format windows does not recognise. I uninstalled all my burner software packages, all my DVD player software packages, I disabled the drag-drop write function on my DVD player, but none of that had any success.
For information, I have a 2.8GHz Celeron processor, 512 MB RAM and plenty of Harddrive (80 Gigs) available. I run Windows XP SP2, and I have a NEC DVD RW 4550. My Graphics card is an MSI BeForce FX card. Can't remember which type, but about 3 years old, with 256 MB RAM I believe. I think it's a 5800 or something like that.
A friend of mine has an HP PC and is currently installing my copy of FS-X on his PC. It seems to start the installation without problems. It hasn't finished yet and I warned him he might get the known problems after about 99% of the second DVD.

Am I missing something? Do I need to use a different DVD drive? It would be a bit silly to have to buy a new DVD player just because MS didn't make the game compatible for all DVD players...
Is it possible region settings on the DVD player affects installation of FS-X? Also, when I look at my optical drive when it is empty, it says "DVD-RAM". Would that matter?
Any help (including telling me what DVD player you have) would be appreciated. Perhaps people could tell me what DVD drive they used (exact make and type) to install FS-X successfully with, so I can keep an eye out for one.

PS I have never had any problems reading and/or writing any type of DVDs or CDs.

More info:

Well, my friend installed it in one go without a single problem.

As for my pc, it's a barebone system, Aopen XCube. But as I said I use an MSI GeForce card.
If someone can tell me what DVD-writer is usable to install the game, that would be great!

Just try hooking up his drive to your puter, either install FSX or copy it to your puter for later install.  Usually 4 screws, one data cable and a power lead, just unhook the sound lead.  Place the drive on a pile of books, do the stuff and put it back.  You shouldn`t need it again.

Hate to tell ya but from your specs its hardly worth wile installing it. You'll need at LEAST 1 gig ram, and a better video card with more then 256 for memory. It may work but your settings will be quite low.

My friend doesn't want to lend me his DVD drive. He got all nervous about it when I asked.  Can anyone tell me what DVD drives do read the disk properly? What DVD drives have you guys used to install FSX?

Another option I was thinking about, is copying it to new DVDs on my mac and then install it on my PC. Or perhaps I can hook up my Mac to my PC with an ethernet cable and install it via my Mac?

I would not recomend copying the disks as the copies will not work ::) .
To my knowledge there is no special requirement for any one DVD player, if the auto run does not work just click on the start icon in the lower left hand corner then click on run then browse then click on the drive that is you DVD drive then click setup and press enter 8-)

Alternatively, network your puter to your friends puter.  Let his DVD drive read the disks and install on yours and/or copy the contents to your drive.  Lots of ways to do this.

Hi,

I more or less had the same problem.
Eventually managed have the dvd recognised and to install fsx while in 'safe mode' (i.e. start up your pc in safe mode and then try to install fsx)

Good luck.
