HELP !!!!!!!!!

Postby garymbuska » Sat Mar 03, 2007 10:12 pm

I need major help
I tried to start FSX today and it gave me a message that said FSX had a configuration problem and was un able to run and that reinstalling it might fix the problem. Well I was not happy to see that but figured I had no choice but to un in stall and reinstall FSX. That when the Sugar Honey Ice Tea hit the fan. It will not let me remove FSX and I am unable to repair it as well I keep getting error message that the installer can not run a needed file. I have checked with Microsoft on this error and have done every thing they suggest and in doing so wound up repairing My Windows XP and still I ma unable to fix the problem. I would appreciate any help here.
I have not alterd my FSX in any way and it ran fine a week ago. I am clueless as to what happened. The installer works fine for other programs as I uninstalled some othjer programs to see if there was a problem with it. :-[ :'(

You could try to delete your FSX.cfg file, or at least move it to another location, and let FSX create a new one for you.

The fSX.cfg file is located in:
o      Windows 2000 and Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX.

You have to have Show hidden files and folders turned on to find it,

Good luck

ok seems like you cant remove FSX. i can help you bit if u can be more specific on FSX removal? have you uninstall it plus is it successful? and is it some of the left over files that you cant delete?? ok, if you have system restore on your pc, try check the checkpoint date where it states "Installing FSX" something like that. click on it, and click restore. so it will go back to where you dont have fsx in it. but if u dont have System Restore, i can't help. 2nd, if your uninstall successful, try remove leftover files one y one which you cant delete the folder with files in it, make sure you delete the internal file, THEN, the folder, 3rd, so, if your uninstall successful, and you want to delete left over files, try find and download from internet the program call "Unlocker 1.7.5" this program can force to delete files that you want to remove.. remember only if your uninstall successful.. CHeers!

Thanks for the response
I have had to repair my windows using the windows CD so I do not want to use system restore as I am afraid it will undo my changes.
It will not allow me to remove or repair FSX I even deleted the entire folder and the fsx cfg file and no luck. I have emailed Microsoft on this issue and would call them but the number on their web site does not work.

Well if you "repared" windows but FSX still wont uninstall, then they didnt repair anything and it shouldn't matter if you restore your computer to an earlyer date. Have you tryed useing the CD's to uninstall? And if you did, have you tried useing the FSX CD's to reinstall without the uninstall, Just let them overwrite the files?

ok why dont you make backup anything important from hard disk. and format your HD, and reinstall all over again eh?
or if you have partition, try to install FSX into 2nd partition. it may work?

just so you know I tried using the disks to uninstall and it would not work and I never got a prompt to allow me to reinstall. I removed every folder including the FSX folder in the application folder where the FSX cfg file is and nothing. But like I said I have now swapped drives and installed a new windows and I am putting every thing back. I have not tried to reinstall FSX yet but it should work{ I hope} ::)
