FSX wont start

Postby Wingo » Thu Feb 22, 2007 9:30 am

BAH!!! Stupid piece of crapolla!!! Every time I start FSX, it stops responding. I've tried remaking the CFG, doesn't work. I've also tried uninstallling the latest bunch of aircraft/guages/etc. still doesn't work. I'm not REALLY in the mood for a full reinstall, any other ideas for what I can try before doing this??

My question is did it ever work or is this something that just started happening.

FSX is different from FS9 and can take a while to load up depending on the system it is installed on.

Only started happening last night, and I know FSX takes a while. The thing is it is taking far too long. I dont have system restore turned on, it hogs resources and gives a place for viruses to hide.

Try renaming your logbook.BIN. There are instances of the FSX logbook becoming corrupted
that result in FSX hanging on the splashscreen. Deleting or renaming the logbook ( if you want
to repair it ) will allow FSX to boot. It will cretae a new logbook at that time.

The logbook is terrible. Mine corrupts every couple of weeks and I have to go in and manually repair it. I hope they fix this problem in the patch but I'm not holding my breath.

I've been using the logbook editor that is available to do any changing/deleting to
my logbook.

I've found that if you delete a logbook entry that is NOT the LAST entry, you stand a very
good chance of having FSX corrupt the logbook. This is especially true if there were any
comments added to the entry to be deleted, making that record longer than a "standard,
no comment" entry. FSX sets an incorrect record length byte in these instances.

If I know I'm going to delete a record, from test hops, incomplete flights or the first leg
of a saved-and-continued flight, I exit FSX and use the logbook editor utility. I can then
delete records or adjust the times, etc of a continued "saved" flight and then delete the
first leg.
There is also a logbook "repair" utility available that should fix most corrupted logbooks
but will not let you edit the logbook. I've not tried this utility since i know how to fix
a corrupted logbook using my HEX editor.

That is exactly what I did, I deleted test, unfinished and muck around flights. I'm downloading this logbook editor.
