New HD,  Fresh install Vista, Fresh install F

Postby freedomhays » Sun Feb 04, 2007 2:24 pm

New HD,  Fresh install Vista, Fresh install FSX,
All went well,  the latest drivers for the evga 8800 gtx from NV.........
Now FSX does nothing but flash on and off every second or so ,  white then the scenery then so on and so on,
Does someone know whats up with this,
When I had this setup on XP Home it worked great,  I thought it would work even better with Vista...

Wishful thinking.

Have you really updated all the drivers?
Mainboard, sound card, etc...

Thank you freedom.

Okay...well....I'm out of ideas, since I have absolutely no experience with Vista.

Have you tried deleting the fsx.cfg file so that it re-builds a new cfg file with all your latest settings?

Regards

I too have the same problem, and the above temp fix works for me.

This helped me to move the date into the future, when i even will begin to think of Vista.
Thank you freedom.

I'm quite pleased with Vista and FSX so far. I'm getting consistent 30fps using the same settings I did in XP where fps would range from 20-30, but never constant. Also, the studdering problem is non-existant. Now I'm very anxious for the FSX update to support dual-core and DX10. though game load time on Vista is quite a bit longer, even with my RAID0.

Lol, Now had you all read the posts in the hardware fourm (where you should be checking before upgradeing) you would know that Vista actually is worse for gaming. Preformance drivers are not out yet, and therefore games run slower.

I have a hard time to understand this. With that powerfull rig you got there, a new simulator and a complete new OS system from the same company, the three things together, not are giving it all a big kick in the air. On the contrary, you need to run fixes to get the texture out!

I just hope this will help freedom also.

I wil NOT think of Vista yet. (Well not much). But i will the next several month do as ctjoyce mention, read all the stuff i can get about hardware needs before upgrading.

Right now, i'm so pleased with my 3 year old pc, and fsx is doing fine.

Cheers all.

With the greatest of respect, I`m so glad I didn`t read it first then.  My settings were quite high on XP 32 bit, even though the machine is not as highly rated as it could be.  I left the settings exactly as they were when I installed Vista 64 bit, nothing has changed apart from load times being quicker.  The settings are the same, the way it reacts is the same, the graphics are the same.  I`m well pleased I changed, though I didn`t just do it for FSX.  There is a slight problem with dual monitors but I came up with a workaround for now.  I still have XP 32 on a dual boot with Vista 64 bit, if the XP setup was that much better then I would be on it all the time, not on Vista all the time as now, even with the dual monitor workaround having to be employed.
