Postby c_jo_wo » Sat Feb 03, 2007 7:50 pm

do i have to unzip the gauge folders from downloaded planes before i put them into the FSX gauges folder, or can i just put the zip file into the gauges folder? i'm currently doing the first.

Go on like that.

FSX can't read data from .zips.

thanks!

then what do the zipped gauges that are already in the folder do? also which files are .cab files? i installed a panel today and the readme said to put in 3 .cab files from various aircraft, i put the zip files from those various aircraft into the gauges folder and the panel worked, did i do it right?

Doesn't the panel cfg (FS9 and FSX) have to be written to support a particular cab file(s) before it can uitilize it?

There's confusion here between zipped gauges and cab files.

Some designers put all the gauges needed for their plane into one zip file; which can go (be unzipped) into either the main FSX gauge folder (all planes can use them), or into the plane's panel folder (best method as it keeps the gauge folder from getting messy).

Some gauges themselves ar cab files (kinda like zip files  (they can even be within the zip files, as the'yre really just a gauge file)).

Take your time... get VERY familiar with the FSX folder structure.. and read ALL the text files that come with your downloaded plane. If you just start throwing stuff in where you "think" it goes.. your FSX installation will become hopelessly cluttered.
