I have yet to see anyone take any shots or talk about the north and south poles. ;)

Tried to get to the North Pole in FS02, but couldn't make the last few or last few hundred miles, and way up there the aircraft is almost impossible to control.  Read somewhere here that the actual layout of the sim is cylinder shaped, not spherical, that might explain it.  Other ideas, guys?

According to FlyTampa's forums they're having a problem with scenery in FSX because the Earth is now no longer flat...

Funny how you bring this up.  I tried flying the Maule down in Antartica lastnight and there is no scenery down there.  You can bring it up on the country list as "Antartica" and there are a few airstrips down there but the scenery is really funny looking... :-/

Would be cool if they could get it fixed and have something to look at down there.  :)

You can go over the poles now.  I have screens of 90 degrees latitude, but they're on my other computer right now. :P

I did a flight from New Zealand to Falklands (with several cheat-landings on the Antarctic ice in between) in FS9. It took me a week to navigate the South Pole, and that was cheating with Google Earth, to peek at coastal outlines along the way. Say what you will about the inaccurate cylindrical format used, it gave a good feel for getting lost with the magnetic variations frigging up the instruments to the point of virtually flying by the seat of your pants. Fun in the simulator, not something I'd want to try in real life, unless I had real long legs on my airplane. :)

One more thing - for those who care to try some what-if addons, there is a nice Antarctic freeware scenery available. Look for "FS2004 Stamar Ice Base 2005 v2.0". Pretty nifty - haven't tried it in FSX but may well work fine.
