to buy or not to buy??

I am seriously considering buying FSX.
Ive heard mostly good things about this sim but I would like to have my questions answered by people who own this sim and know what they are talking about, rather than magazines that kiss up to Microsoft like there's no tommorow.

1. Will my computer run FSX ok, I mostly fly small aircraft and warbirds at low altitude.
My specs are as follows

Well you've come to the right place. We don't kiss ass because that serves no-one's long term good. Once a BS'r - always a slimebag. No respect  :)

I'll let the others answer in depth your good question. It's somehting you can be sure many 1000's are thinking exactly. Overall you should get a favourable (in favour) response with the absolute definite about upgrading your RAM.  ;) Listen to the ones who say 'this is how you do it' rather than the ones who live under grey clouds.

Your computer almost equals mine, and i can tell you that it wont run high, far from. But it runs enough for me to be pleased.

I can set the autogen on normal in non populated areas, the ground better then in standard FS9 on highest and the texture detail on medium. Though i also fly the bigger with it(wich makes it run worse) the small stuff runs best, wich is between the 10 and 20 frames.

I'd say that it is worth to buy, even though if your not going to fly it a lot, atleast you can get a glimpse of what is/will be possible when you upgrade your computer. And i geuss that putting in a extra gig of ram, wich doesnt cost that much will help you a whole lot! and im running on 1 gig RAMM and 2 Ghz processor with the N6600TD 265MB.

Hope this explains it a bit, i love the sim, the missions are really fun and doesnt make it arcade, and most of all, it feels very reel from what i know from flying a cessna.

I think installing the FSX Demo should give you some idea of what to expect. This is the first time MS has released an official free demo of any version of FS/CFS. You might as well take advantage of it.

1) "OK" is definately a matter of opinion with FSX..
Your sys will run FSX "OK" but,  not great.
Fact is, there is no sys currently avalible that can run FSX anywhere near its full potential.
So, you have to taylor  FSX to a given sys....... dumb down the areas that are not to important to you at present to get acceptable performance. This is my opinion of course.

2) VISTA alone will probably reduce performance a bit by most accounts.
However, VISTA coupled with a DX10 card will give a performance boost. Just how much improvement  that combo will allow, no one can say for shure at this point. It is "wait and see" for all of us.

3) Yeah, the missions can actually be fun at times.

4) Sadly, no

As Hagar suggested , try the demo to get a general idea of what FSX has to offer and how it wiil run on yor sys.

Just be careful here.  I don't know about the others but I found out that the demo wasn't a good representation for how the full version would run on my system....just me so don't flame me guys.  ;D

I got awesome performance out of the demo and was shocked to see how much my performance dropped out on the full version.  Visually it's all about what you are happy with, you'll find yourself (like many here) tweaking and tweaking until you find that sweet spot.  ;D

But to answer the question in your subject line bluntly....buy, you won't be disappointed.  ;)
