there is one of the reasons why it wont perform great.
On current technology, even the nVidia 8800, you cannot expect to have full sliders on everything.  Give the sim a chance in a year or 2, when the proper technology is out to enjoy the flying, and the eye candy.
Fortunately it works good with my X600 AND my X850 XT downstairs, only on mid-settings but still looks nice and gives above 15fps in LAX.
A tip for you mate, have 0% traffic, like airliners, GA and road.  I have around 50% ships and leisure boats and i go fine.
Might be a good idea to save up for a better card.
Cheers,

You sound like me Alex.
When Oblivion came out, I got it fully expecting a trip to newegg's site soon after install. I was wonderfully surprised that I was able to run it maxed out and even install 3rd party gfx updates for it.

When I went to get FSX, I was hoping for the same results. No luck, although I was able to get single fps. I took a chance and got 2gb of ram to replace the 512mb I had. It made a grand difference. I can now run the sim with mid level gfx, real time weather and a few AI while staying in the mid to upper teens. Yes I need a new system and FSX was finally the game that proved it beyond a doubt. I am really happy with the game, I can't blame the low performance on anything other than my nearly 4 year old system.

So sometime after Vista is out and there is plenty of DX10 hardware to choose from I am going to try to put together a machine that will run it well. Until then I hope it is foggy and rainy (so I can't see the ground below me), hehe. That was just a joke really, it isn't that bad at all.

Hang in there, more power is on the way. In the meantime, just play with the sliders until you find a good compramise. After seeing the difference the ram made in my case, I highly recommend 2gb or more.

And about six months before FSXI is released.  ;D
