DAMNIT!

Postby Jakemaster » Sat Dec 16, 2006 1:29 am

I JUST INSTALLED IT AND IT ALREADY STOPPED WORKING!

This is utter BS!  I made some tweaks according to the webset linked from here and I didnt back up.  Bad idea, I know, but I figured they were safe.  Now whenever I try to fly thedamn thing just freezes.  It refuses to respond.  Ill click on a mission and go into briefing and then it wont do anything, or if I go to free flight it wont do anything.

Now I need to reinstall but apparently theres no uninstall!  I hope I didn't ruin my chances of playing FSX before I even PLAYED it for more than a damn hour!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. But look on the bright side. You can still uninstall. All you need to do is pop Disc 1 of FSX back into the dvd-rom and select the option to uninstall.

Ya, and I think Im going to avoid the tweeks that modify actual files on the new install.  I had it set up pretty well, I was getting good performance with good graphics (less detail than FS9 as far as autogen goes because I can;t have ANY autogen in FSX without losing my performance).

Its not like its that bad, but considering Ive had it for only a few hours and only done 1 flight, it kinda stinks to ALREADY have to reinstall

Jake, we should send your install/tweek play by play to Gates. I'm betting your experience with FSX is not unlike thousands of others. Maybe he can fork over a few bucks for computer upgrades to anyone frustrated after buying it based on the published computer requirements. I hope you work things out, i've been holding off getting it and reading a lot of the feedback here at V.  Your experience isn't making me rush down to the store to pick it up..

Oh Hagar Im not stupid, Im blaming myself entirely, just like when I lost hours of progress on a repaint because I didn't save.

The website was in the FAQ here, http://fsxmission.com/live/modules.php?name=Show&show=tweaks.  I did basically all those tweeks that involved replacing files with smaller ones.  What would happen is I would click on the 'briefing' for a mission and would get to that screen and then it would just freeze, the music was still playing but nothing was responding, none of the butons were doing anything when I clicked on them.

I just reinstalled and am about to see if its okay...

BTW, a new option with FSX is the ability to "Repair" a damaged FSX.

Simply DELETE ALL FOLDERS containing files you've "modified," and the REPAIR option on DVD#1 will replace ONLY those folders and files that are missing.

It's darn sure faster that a complete reinstall! ;)

I just reinstalled, no problems since it was a fresh install anyways.  Everything is working fine now except I can't have ANY generic autogen.  Trees and such bring my system to its knee, even on sparse, but without it I get 15-20 fps easy
