First impressions

Postby Jakemaster » Fri Dec 15, 2006 11:48 pm

Wellim in the sim right now, and right now i am very unhapy.  ON default settings it looks like crap, even though im getting 15 FPS.  I tried setting my own settings and it looed a little better, but still it looked terrible compared to my FS9 and got less than half the frames.

Right now Im upset, but I expected it.  I love the cockpit of the 737, but Id rather fly a less amazing plane in better scenery.

Im gonna stay up all night tweeking to try and get that golden settings where the frames are good and it looks good, but right now its looking like FSX was a bad idea for my computer...

Well things are getting better.  I haven't made any changes to the actual files but Ive tweeked the settings a bit and already found a nice balance.  Since I mostly fly jets now its important that it looks good up high, and right now im getting about the same performance as I did in FS9 with pretty good looking graphics, the cockpit of the airbus looks incredible and even at lower settings the ground looks great.

Im gonna keep on playing with it, but right now I think I might actually like FSX and be able to use it!

Au contraire!  I think the new sim is really good personally...it did take me ages to get the settings good, i am still tweaking them now.  i can get 20fps with medium type settings, it does look kinda good still, better than STOCK FS9 anyhow.  Good luck in getting the spot on settings for you, I am getting there  :)
My only gripe is the fact that i cant create a GameSpy account.
anyway, have fun, the missions are really cool.

Well see I think its great too, only I can't have autogen (trees and such)

With FS9 I spent MONTHS tweeking it to get it right, and I expect to do the same with FSX

In reply to your P.S Daube, i had that too...on Firefox now though.
Yeah graphics arent really important to me right now, the new flight dynamics and features are too good to surpass.

Cheers,

Add .disabled to default.xml in you fsX/autogen folder. I'm willing to bet you can pull medium to high autogen if you do that.

You will loose randomly generated special buildings, so variety of autogen will be fs9 level, AND there will no intercity trees.

Jake, with your rig you should be able to get some very good settings + autogen. (I do, and my rig is half as yours) Use AA 4+ and AF preff. on your card. No AA in the game and try trili. there. Set global all up. Try it.

Hager is compleately right. There's no comparising with the demo and a full install.

I use firefox. It's quicker and safer.

It might give you some idea of what to expect but I'm not convinced you can compare the Demo with FSX proper.

I am fully aware that the FULL FSX will not run as smooth as the demo. Anyway, I can accept to lower the graphics again, that's not a problem, I don't fly for graphics.

This is apparently a new feature of IE7. You can disable it. Look HERE

Oh great, thanks for the link.
The only thing that is strange is that I have explorer 7 installed since almost a week, and this popup only started appearing today on this forum. Did they change anything ? ... oh, now that I remember, I made a windows update this morning... may be linked to my "problem".

Wait until you stop tweaking long enough to take some complete flights.. You'll be amazed at the new flight dynamics  :)
