how about this for a new card?

how about this for a new card?

Postby loomex » Sat Dec 09, 2006 1:26 pm

I know I will get about as many answers as there are people in this forum, but that's why I ask!
With a limited budget, my wife let me purchase a Geforce FX5200 256mb ram video card. My computer is not set for a PCI-express card. As you can see from my current specs below this is somewhat of an improvement.
Anybody have experience with this particular card? My guess is that I will have much better performance with the new card.
Oh, BTW even though I chose the card, I am not allowed to unwrap it until X-mas :'(

Well, its still a low end card, but it will boost your performance a bit....but not really to anything amazing.  My computer that is in my sig still is struggling to keep up with FSX, and even the best systems are brought to their knees.  Hopefully that gives you a good representation of what the 5200 will help you with.  I would say it would give you several frame per second increase on all low settings.

it will give you a performance boost, but it will not give you any eye candy in FSX

I must say that after trying to use FSX now and again with my reasonable specs, (shown below), and getting constantly disappointed with the performance at my preferred settings, I am still running FS9 (maxed out) until I am willing to spend mega-bucks! on a total re-build, Windows Vista, DX10, processor, motherboard, graphics card, memory, you-name-it, etc, etc... :o... :o... :o...!

Until that time comes I am a very happy bunny using FS9 running flat-out, with all my various add-ons in place... :-*...!
....sorted... ;)...!

So far, everybody has commented as I expected. I know I wont see all the goodies in the sim, however, with my current setting and the reduced size texture tweeks I have installed, I get good frame rates every where except major airports, so an upgrade like I am getting (no luck yet on early opening!) should help in those areas. Thanks for the replies.
