Yes.. there are many, big differences.. too many to list. Most important to me, is that the flight algorithms are more realistic..

As for screen-shots ?  FS9, with add-on scenery is better, visually, than stock FSX at settings low enough for most computer to run it and be flyable. FSX with the scenery cranked up rivals even the best FS9 add-ons.. and that's not even a fair comparison. The trick is having the computer to handle it.

Now.. imagine FSX when add-on scenery catches up  ;D

"Is it FSX or FS9? "
The latter for me
.

I bought FSX the day it came out, October 7, 2006, and after giving it a thorough going-over on my system, I gave up on it after a month.

I'll load it from time-to-time but really don't have two-three minutes for a sim to load or to change from season-to-season or from day-to-night.

Friends of mine want to buy their kids a flight-simulator for Christmas, and asked me for recommendations; I said pick up an old copy of FS9. Save the kids all the hassle. Life's too short.

It's no hassle at all..or disappointing.. if your computer is up to the task. Once you get used to FSX.. it's really tough to enjoy FS9..

Indeed, FSX is much better.

And all those people just went in with the expection that it would run just as FS9 does, but i tell everyone to expect the lowest and then build up from that bit by bit. it may take a while but you can get it running alright and looking better then FS9 on a low end comp.

FSX is brillaint a lovely enviroment, i run on high settings locked at 20FPS, and i only fly in england and random places no cities so im alawys between 18 and 20 FPS which is fine for me.

i have however started to use my FS9 again because as said before it takes a good 2 mins to load a flight in FSX comapred to 20secs in FS9.

but FSX ftw....as soon as i get another gig of ram :P

I will have to vacation/holiday in your universe some time.
It really sounds like a fun, carefree place.  ;)

It depends on your expectations! Much prettier scenery, better flight dynamics, improved lighting, much much higher terain mesh detail and accuracy and much much higher ground texture and variety, a fabulous looking ocean and much higher resolutions all round! Also if you have got the ultimate gaming PC yet available; much improved autogen!

FSX is not yet polished though and as said has a few issues, but learn the work arounds and this is still the finest flight sim to date and I am loathed to go back to FS9 ATM. If only MS get it's finger out though and address the performance issues and other niggles this new flight sim could kick some serious butt!   :)

I'm totally serious Joe, I just want to know what some of these flaws are so I can check them out, and see what I have missed.  I've done alot of flying in FSX, and just about every type of flying that can be done in FSX, and I am curious.  Are they flaws like, "Yesterday I went flying in real life, and as I was landing, there was a big gust of wind, but then when I got home and loaded FSX with real-world weather, there was no gust!", or are they more along the lines of, "Whenever I start to climb, the VSI says I'm descending!"?  I'm genuinely curious, I've given up trying to argue, and I'd like to see it from your point of view, but short of installing it on a 10-year old computer, I haven't been able to see what the huge problems are.

Same thing here, but I haven't put on as many hours yet.

The only reason is that I found out that my favorite joystick won't work with the rig that I installed FSX on (can't find my gameport -> USB converter). So. . .I have been flying with the keyboard ( ::)). I am not the best "finger-flyer" out there. . . need to go get that adapter or new joystick asap ;D

One problem that I have noticed is the load times are a bit long. . .I can live with that.
