FSX Resolution annoyance

Postby FS_Pilot » Thu Nov 02, 2006 10:45 am

I normally run my computer at 800x600 resolution but since installing FSX every time i start it asks me to set the resolution to a minimum of 1024x768. In all previous versions of Flightsim it was possible to have your desktop at 800x600 and setup Flightsim to 1024x768 and it would automatically set it to that size when the program starts and restore it to the original resolution when the program is closed. I normally view web pages at 800x600 and have to manually change it to 1024x768 instead of being automatic. I am hoping Microsoft will realise their error and offer a fix to correct this issue. The size of the print in the browser is too hard to read and it is only displayed in part of the screen. And being over 50 my eyes are not what they used to be.

Another thing that was left out of this version was the option of being able to move your eyepoint up or down when in 2D view.

I really wonder where MS's head was when they released FSX.

That is what they did with FS9 released a patch to correct errors & omission. They do bring out some great additions & inprovements to the new version but then they go and spoil it by omitting some very functional & great items from the previous versions. Surely with the large team, resourses and money that goes into each version they could certainly do a lot better. I would encourage ALL USERS of this and any other product for that matter to send emails, letters or any other form of communication to Microsoft to let them know our feelings and maybe an update will be released sooner than later. I Have.

With FS9 the eye point could be moved up or down.
However, this often changed your perception of the runway on final.

With FSX, you can move the panel up or down instead which preserves your perception of the runway.

It isn't just Microsoft that does this. It seems common in the computer gaming industry. If someone would just keep what's good and improve on that eventually we would have the ultamite game but nope, never do that. Instead fix a few things that were wrong in the previous release and ruin some that worked.

I guess it's the price we have to pay for big business software companies. In the past games were programmed by a single person or a very small team of one or two. Back then they took their time and only released it when it was ready. Now however it's big business and time schedules and a lot needs to be thrown out to meet the stated goals.

For an example look at the difference between Microsoft's FS series and the Orbiter space sim. Orbiter is done mostly by one man who does it as a hobby. It grows on each previous version and is never released before it's pretty much ready. It's like two completely different worlds.

This one of the main reasons i also use X-Plane. It is designed by one main person with input from the X-Plane community. If enough people want it, it normally gets added or updated. Maybe if enough people contact Microsoft then maybe they will get the message too.
