FSX activated on two computers?

Postby GhostOperative » Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:14 pm

I have two computers and I am using both for gaming (Flight Sims of course) and I wonder, before I try this, is it possible to have FSX activated on both computers if I only use it on one computer at the time?

Thank you for replies

It is my understanding that you can activate it on two computers.

It is when you try to activate it on a third computer (or third major hardware change) that you have to call the "toll free number" to try an convince them, you are not pirating FSX and they wil give you a new key. ;)

According to the EULA you are allowed to make one copy for back up purposes only.

And you are allowed to use it one one computer at a time, in order to install on another you must remove it from the other one. That doesn't mean it isn't possible but to be safe you should call MS and tell them what you want to do. Or just don't activate it on one machine and deal with the 30 minute flight limit.

Haven't read the FSX EULA.....but that is likely the case.  If you have FSX, read it.

It is in fact quite possible.  I've done it, as have quite a few other people... I run FSX on the second machine slaved to my primary flightsim machine via WidevieW.

If I ever need to install to a new computer, I've got no problem with telling the silly computer, "Er sure I've removed FSX from the old machine!"  8)

Not really. I have only one copy of FSX Deluxe and managed to install it onto two different computers. I have yet to try it on a third.

There's nearly always a disconnect between the written word and reality...

As I said, I've got FSX installed on two separate computers that're are linked by the LAN and communicating bidirectionally via WidevieW/FSUIPC.  Two "Activations" :: Two "Computers"

I can reinstall FSX on either machine an unlimited number of times, unless...

a) I make a major hardware change in one and/or both computers

-or-

b) I replace one and/or both computers

...in which case, I'll need to make a phone call to reset the Activations for either/both of them.

I can live with that...  ;D

So I can actually activate FSX on 2 computers and use both to play online (but not at the same time). Right?  ???

What about if you upgrade your computer, will it let you activate on a new one?

Chances are you would have to call Microsoft and let them know about the upgrade [of any kind] just so that Microsoft can be convinced that your FSX copy is not pirated. There, they would most likey give you either a new registration code or they might use the same code. I don't know, I'm just speculating. ;D

This activation stuff is another thing putting me off getting FSX, do we really need such inconvenient measures? I think they've taken it too far personally.
