Brett, I think that what you've said is part of the problem. No matter what MS are saying now - they need to sell boxes - there is no doubt from all the original promos and videos that the launch of FSX was intended either to coincide with Vista and DX10 or even to follow shortly after (the FIRST game actually written to take advantage of all the new features etc blah blah....)

But woopsy - everything has turned pear shaped. No Vista, no DX10 - but FSX development still bubbling along.

Question - when was FSX originally scheduled for launch? Now as I recall it was considerably earlier this year - the spring maybe?

What can have caused this delay? Not rewriting surely, to dumb it down to run with XP and DX9.

I don't know - I'm only asking. I won't get any answers I know. But there has to be some reason why such a much-hyped piece of software has turned out the way it has ( Alcatraz, Alcatraz .......look at FSX's sloppy Alcatraz compared to 04.....totall symptomatic of the problems).

I can sum that up for you with two words:

Bad management

But the vast majority of people who will buy this program are NOT going to be surfing the net to research the product.  This is not a home purchase or a car...... it's a computer game.  So a LOT of of people are going to buy this item based on the TV commercials and the stuff the box says.

THAT is where the issue lies.

best,

Boy,  thays a joke, ISSUE?

It's only in your mind.............
stuff the box says

Have you ever bought an appliance that perhaps even you had to install  and read the instructions........daaaaa

It was announced at the end of 2006 as far is i know, so there actualy early with there release.

Well, bumpmaps really are a revolution, they dynamicly create the shadows of objects on the textures thus showing a hughe level of emersion, they also give it a 3d feeling, more or less faking it.

Where are you from pepper_whatsyourname? Are you British? I doubt it.

What total cobblers. Have you bothered (a) to see what a mess it is and (b) compared it against FS2004.

You obviously don't remember that MS thought quite rightly that London was of such importance in FS2004 that they redid almost every London bridge in the 9.1 update.

Like most non-Americans I DON'T spend all my time simming in the US. I do it in the UK and quite a bit in and around London.

Does a New Yorker expect to see (and pay for) ravines and rapids in the East River? Of course not. And neither do I in the Thames.

You may have calmed down by now, (did have the patients to read all 27 bagillion pages) but everyone get F___ed up in some way or another, ex.

FSX has no Mackinaw Bridge, (big bridge in michigan, did hold a record in the fifties about five miles long), or Sault Locks (one of the busiest lock systems in the United States) but it actually has the Sugar Island ferry, (a tiny ferry than runs back and forth between Sugar Island and Sault Ste. Marie, holds about a dozen cars)

They seemingly forgot about the ports around the Great Lakes, which provide a lot of commerce in the U.S.

They dont have the Superior Dome in Marquette, Michigan (KSAW) which is i believe the third largest wooden dome in the world.

Basically they cant cover every landmark that exist all over the world, I bet there is a Chinese person pissed because they dont have the Three Gorges Dam, (i believe the biggest dam on earth at the momment)

Take a Flipping chill pill ;)
What do I do you ask? I struggle! Then destroy! Then try to put back together what I just broke on accident.....

Prehaps you should have read through it. Then you'd know what it's all about. No one is complaining about missing landmarks here. The gripe is massive mesh errors in locations that MS is advertising as "highly detailed". That is the problem. Not the fact that they've done Wembley Stadium completely wrong or the fact that the Millenium Bridge is the wrong shade of white.

Sorry for reviving thread on page 2 :)

Uh. Current computers can easily max out fs9. I do, and infact it runs so good I even had to max out ALL my video driver settings to make it look even better.

Second, I doubt fsX is optimized for Vista. It's based on an old engine using older Sims and the game will be patched to take advantage of DX10.

Also stop complaining about having to turn off features advertised on the bos. Example:
'Next generation graghics' - although the game looks terrible on cards listed in the minimum requirements.

I sell all my games I don't use, but I can expect all my previous games to have this so called 'false advertising' on them.

Simply put: IF you expect advertised graphics on minimum requirements, you're NOT going to get it. Any gamer knows this.

You forgot to mention the herd of elephants seen from 37,000feet !!!!!

You forgot to mention all the other fsX enhacement which I tell you in every single thread.

Hahahaha! Yeah, people kept saying:

"It's just a demo, the full version will run faster."

"It's just a beta, the final will run faster."

Now they are saying:

"It's optimized for Vista, it will run faster."

Talk about make believe reality.

my goodness, people are still missing the point. Woody pointed it out clearly, and its still been missed. Rollerball has clearly pointed it "WITH PICTURES" for crying out loud, stop trying to steer the topic into an area where you think your smart so you can perhaps try to look like your helping. Does anyone remember who created the first test scenery for FSX with just a demo product to work with? oh yeah its the guy who created this thread, the guy who some of you are trying to talk down to. I guarentee you he know's far more about the in's and outs of this program than most of you are giving him credit for, so pull your heads out and re-read the topic. its 15 pages of crap and about 5 posts that are helpful the way I see it.

Basically this thread has been hijacked right from the beginning by people wanting to defend MS while complaining about their performance. It seems while doing this they've been blind about the real reason for this topic. :P

Sorry I' m so late on the scene. This is my first post Rolly...

I am truly shocked at the mess London is in. If London is like that - probably one of the top five most important capitals of the world - what hope is there for anywhere else?
I don't care what anyone says - those screenies are appaling. This is the FS that was delayed, this is the FS that we had high expectations for and is the FS people have had to cough up what would be for some a days hard earned wages.

I will not defend MS, they have clearly done the foundations and have deliberately let it out to the market unfinished well aware that developers will finish it off. That is a disgrace and an exploitation by one of the world's most powerful companies owned by the world's richest man.

If this sim is such a mess - why didn't MS go to the scenery developers and find the best landscapes ever, buy out the company and then give us all good graphics? There are some graphics out there that are photo-realistic in large packages - couldn't they have bought the best ones for even a few areas like London?

Cheers Rolly,

Ben :)
