A Total Joke

FSX including FSX Steam version.

And that's the beauty of it. It's not like FS9 quit working. People can move up the FS-rank as their desire and budget allow. A year from now.. a hardware upgrade for FSX will be much more affordable and probably  right about the time some would be upgrading anyway.

And when the the new hardware/software is out (Vista DX10 etc.).. all it really does is open even more simming horizons that you can step up to when you're ready.

I'd love to try my hand at these new 172s with glass cockpits.. But at $250,000.. there aren't many in rental fleets yet.. But there will be soon  ;D

Mean time.. I aint gonna gripe at Cessna for building them.

Brett....beware...;)...!

I would seriously worry if the circuit breaker feeding the Glass Cockpit in your new $250,000 Cessna 172 Skyhawk trips out, and wont re-set... :o...!

...Hooray for analogue clocks... ;D...!

LOL...!

Paul...;D...!

P.S.  I've heard horror stories by GA Pilots who have had bad experiences with Glass Cockpits failing on them, or giving out the wrong information....
...or no bleedin' information at all...>:(...!

...any similarity between FSX and Glass Cockpits is purely coincidental?....LOL...;D...!

I'm no fan of Microsoft.. or their advertising.. or their marketing. I despise the company, for the most part. That their FS(any version) is mis-represented is as predictable as government corruption. But... like the governement, we're a captive audience.

I'm not defending Microsoft, as much as I'm saying that complaining about them is not "sensible discussion".  They don't listen or care. That we put up with them means that.. in the net.. what they offer, for what it costs (money and aggravation) is obviously worth it.. 'cause here we are.

If the glass fails , well then you just have to resort to good ol fashion mike and steam gauge flying.
They still have three there to keep you going.

Ummm..  what's with the new name, Paul..  ?    ;D

And yeah.. I've heard those stories too. I'd still rather stake my life on a good-old set of steam gauges as I plowwed into IMC on a cross-country flight..

I'm not so sure about that. People complained so much about FS2000 (which was possibly the buggiest piece of commercial software I have yet encountered) that Microsoft were forced to do something about it. Not one, not two but THREE patches or updates as they prefer to call them before it was anywhere near what it should have been right from the start.

Good point...

But there isn't a patch for old hardware... Or mis-representing a product.

I've said this before (I think - me memory's going) that I work in an industry where software is required to be proven to be reliable and to provide what it says on the box, before you actually are allowed to use it. (The term is 'validation'.)

It's unfortunately true that with commercial software that doesn't have life-or-death impact, that this doesn't apply, and that companies can sell what they want - and 'cave emptor'. Buyer beware. Buggy sims are a fact of life (look at Doug's point about FS2000) but it's only reflective on a company that develops a piece of software and then relies on its target audience (that's US, chaps) to let them know what's wrong with it.

It's not as if Microsoft has any real competition in the FS marketplace and needs to get something out there PDQ, like Apple has had to do with the updated version of their iPod nano. FS9 wasn't broke, so why rush FSX out, half-cocked, to try to fix it?

FS9 wasn't broke, so why rush FSX out, half-cocked, to try to fix it?

because the Holiday season was approaching and all the kiddies want it for Christmas along with their new machines!  ;)

I agree, why not release it when Vista & DX10 comes out. Therefore people would KNOW that they need this hardware to run it correctly. you would then have people not bashing it so badly because most people will not even have the hardware required.

It is a two way street.

WITHOUT MICROSOFT THERE WOLD BE NO FLIGHT SIMULATOR.

THEY RELEASE A VERSION THAT WILL WORK "IN THE FUTURE" AND WE ALL GET UPSET THAT TODAY'S MACHINES WILL NOT RUN IT, FOR MOST PEOPLE.

BUT IF THEY DON'T MOVE FOWARD, WE WILL NEVER KNOW THE POTENTAIL FOR THE FLIGHT SIMULATOR.

SO NOW WE ALL COMPLAIN THAT THEY HAVE DEVELOPED A NEW VERSION THAT IN REALITY DOES NOT REALLY SATISFY THE MASSES.

BUT IF THEY DID NOT DEVELOP IT, WHO WOULD?
WE HAVE THE FREEDOM TO ENJOY FS9 FOR NOW.
I SAY WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

REMEMBER, A FEW YEARS FROM NOW EVERYTHING WILL BE WORKED OUT AND EVERYBODY WILL BE HAPPY SAYING......

"WHEN IS FLIGHT SIMULATOR 11 COMING OUT?"  ;)

I would say this to those complaining.....
"Install FSX when you are COMPLETLEY happy with your flying experience in FS9. Do you fly stutter free and is your flying experience the best it can be with FS9?
Why would you upgrade to a much more hardware demanding sim when your FS9 can't even handle it?

Would anyone here buy an M(qualcosa)s product for REAL aviation?? I wouldn't trust my life to ANY of their products!!! From day one they have released buggy software and relied on others to patch it up. .
Does anyone remember the early versions of DOS ?
Format C:\  Y/N
If you pressed Y it went ahead and did it without further ado!!!
As for other flight sims FLYII was the best until FS9
Great scenery great aerodynamics, ground effect, proper flightplanning, crap clouds, crap ATC but nevertheless a pilots' sim.

I really think that M(qualcosa)s should withdraw FSX from the shelves, get it right and put it back on sale ONLY when Vista and DX10 are out

There's nothing there that I don't agree with (Brett and Dave) but I come back to my analogy of the Mercedes. In fairness to all of the people who have gone,

IMO,
If you got the disposable cash go all the way.
Shoot if you love flight simming you will.
If you don't have that resource then just stick with what best works for you.
As far as MS goes,
They do bump up the odds but I love the personal challenge.
And also for all the cry babies who said they did not know about the FSX requirements,
you should have known just by doing research and reading lots of different forums out there.  There's hundreds of forums involving not just flight Sims but hardware and software etc.  the like..............
