That is problem with people i think, they have no cleu how much time and money it takes to  create a complete simulator. The UK never has been really interesting, so why should it be suddenly now?

I suppose the US is there biggest market, so its logical to focus there attention to that area.

I stand to be corrected, but I wouldn't be surprised if the UK was the second biggest market, maybe Germany though.

The thing that has amazed be about MSFS, is they still, even after including the DH 88 Comet in FS9, neglect to include Old Warden amongst the UK airports, and yet have some obscure little strips no one has heard of. That's the equivalent of leaving out Old Rhinebeck out from the US... ::)

Only because it's never been modeled properly.

This why I always liked CFS3. Just about all the lumps and bumps in the landscape were where they should be in real life.

Now we're not talking here about a missing stadium, or an airport not having exactly the same layout as it does in real life or a bridge being the wrong colour. Rollerball has pointed out pretty significant errors in the default terrain mesh. Sure there have always been the occasional lumps and dips that have slipped through (remember the see was on a slight gradient at Miegs in FS2002) but never anything on the scale of what Rollerball is describing and Charlie is picturing. And these are things that should have been picked up in the beta testing. Sure you can't pick up all these little things but to have such errors in what is arguably the most famous and well known captial city in the world is just unforgivable.

But then, if MS couldn't even get the release of this sim right what chance was there that the content was going to be any good? :P

Really? not interesting?
I'll make sure to point that out to those who show great interest in the airshow pictures posted by Doug, and the rest of us during the summer. It would be nice to see these major airfields modeled correctly to have a nice recreation or so.
Or how about those scenery shots everyone seems to like viewing posted again by Doug on his trips. It would be nice to fly over these places, but hey you cant because its not even close.
The UK has some incredible landmarks and points of interest that should be in there. But to not even get the capitol city right? unacceptable. And dont give me this crap about add-ons and developers. To most people FS is the most expensive piece of software they'll buy, we expect it to reflect that. Charlies picture is further proof they dont test it properly. Some of you have been so brainwashed by this MS be happy you have what you have considering how large a project it is, that your just willing to settle for average. You wouldn't accept another computer game that had such glaring errors. How about a car racing game where the tracks are missing a corner, or the cars dont drive right. Or a shoot-em up where the gun's fire rubber bullets. You'd be up in arms. Microsoft are supposed to be top of the pile, its time they started acting like it.

I thought we had a rule here on the forum about not being personal if you disagree with someone's point of view. Looks as though some of these conventions are rapidly going out of the window with newer members joining and from some older members who shouild know a whole lot better.

Where are you from pepper_whatsyourname? Are you British? I doubt it.
What total cobblers.

I'm trying to avoid making personal remarks here, but pepper, you're making yourself look silly with the cobblers you're coming out with.

I agree with you, roller, Microsoft is trying to put down all of the outside world.  They will start with this, then they will start putting a large amount of "errors" into Vista, just for England!  Then printers will say they are jammed, when they are not, and, well, I don't even want to think about IE not being safe :-/

;D ;D ;D ;D

But really, its a Microsoft product, did you think there weren't going to be any errors?

OK, here are some pics - let's see what other people think. I've put up thumbnails and if you click on each one you'll get the full pic but still low quality I'm afraid. I don't think you need to be told which is which.

Dartford Bridge (that started it all). No comments needed I think

ImageImage

London City Airport area

ImageImage

Canary Wharf. What you can't see is that the mesh that the buildings are tanding on is at all different levels, and so is the water. But look beyond them to the river bend (next pics)

ImageImage

This is appalling. How did this get through testing.

ImageImage

Tower Bridge. Same comments as above. How could they let this through? Won't be doing much flying under this then

ImageImage

Lastly, just a general view up towards the city centre

ImageImage

So this is the difference from 2003 to 2006. I somehow expected something.......better

I know, just trying to lighten up the mood.

Seeing your screen shots I understand you frustration. However, I have to say that I am not surprised, it is MS after all and they do have a habit of releasing unfinished software, but on the other hand, I am surprised. You would have though that at least the (assuming London is one) the 40 odd enhanced location would have been checked once or twice.

It might be a 'stupid remark', but its my opinion so will say anyway...FS is just a game!! If you want realism your gonna have to go pay

No it's not a stupid remark. It's a perfectly valid opinion.**

I don't agree though. See what Craig said in his post about games as well.

And don't forget something else. To you it's a game. To Microsoft it's a global brand which sells for $millions all over the world and makes them a lot of money.

Just like a plumber who does a shoddy job and then asks you for the full amount he quoted (do you pay up - maybe you do....) they are not entitled to make that money just by putting any old product on the shelves, especially if it contains mistakes that they haven't told us about before we gave them our cash. This was supposed to be the most 'communicated about' and tested version of FS ever. That's what they told us anyway.

And from a technical point of view, proper LWMs are pretty fundamental to a program like this.

Anyway, I've said all I'm going to on this one ( except for one more posting   :)  in reply to John

** This was a reply to Cobra's posting - John's (tahnks John) came in while I was typing.
