Well it came yesterday and I could hardly wait to install it. Popped the DVD into the drive and after about a half and hour it loaded up. FSX automatically set my default settings to "Medium High" and I jumped right into my first flight without tweaking anything.
Default airport, Friday Harbor, in the Goose. Started looking around and was getting around 17-20 FPS. So I thought to myself...this ain't to shabby, it looked pretty damn good. Went to the settings and played with the sliders and and I was still around 14-17 after bumping some things up...and it was pretty smooth.
Then I went to SeaTac and Seattle. OMG, my frame rates hit the floor...I was getting 4-7 and could barely get the plane in the air because it was so choppy. AI traffic was null, no cars, augo-gen at normal I think and scenery density at dense. Pulled the sliders back again and still was getting about 9....not playable.
Quit the game and decided to do some of the tweaks to the FSX.cfg file. Did the auto-gen tweak and set trees to 800 and buildings to 1000. Went back into the game and was still getting 7-9 in Seattle. It seemed like it took textures forever to load as I got closer to Seattle...hell Safeco Field didn't show up until I passed where it was suppost to be.
I admit I only got about an hour to play with the settings last night because of other stuff going on at home but I'm anxious to get home and spend the weekend tweeking. Am I expecting too much out of my system? It's not brand new but it runs FS9 beautifully and other games great. I've optimized it for games by tweeking the page file and start-up applications already also. Here are my specs....
Pentium 4. 3.0ghz CPU
BFG Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3
2GB PC2700 RAM
I don't want to give up on this game but I don't want to have to avoid the big cities and only fly rural ya know?
