what will directX10 mean.....

Postby omar777 » Thu May 18, 2006 4:19 pm

Hi guys. Ive been trying to get a grasp of what DX10 will mean when it comes out. So far I understand it will be as much as 3-8 times fast than DX9c :o. And I also know that it will considerably increase graphic performance and quality. But one thing im still not so sure about is whether it will be compatable with current graphics cards, for i myself am using an AGP Ti4200.
Ive also read on some threads about people waiting for DX10 before upgrading graphics cards. which made me wonder if older cards will be DX10 compatible ???. I for one want to wait before I build a new rig for cost and better techno reasons ;). But just so if anyone is still confused about the DX10 thi, heres a central post that will clarify those questions. thanks in advance!

There's no cards on the market which are DX10 compatible right now.

The future cards will be DX10 compatible, which means they'll support DX10 features.

My GeForce 6800GT is a DX9 card, and will not support DX10 features, only DX9 features.

Your TI4200 for instance, is really old and only supports DX8 features, not even DX9 features.

Dx10 means to me lack of backwards compatibility, poor performance in old games and a big money spinner for ATI/Nvidia and M$.  ATI/NVIDIA get to sell new cards that support dx10 and M$ gets to sell there shiny new DRM infected ram whore OS to everyone who wants to play games that need directx 10 (EG. HALO 3 for pc).

As far as FSx is concened the screenshots you see are all Dx9.0c as the hardware that supports dx10 isn't available yet.  The m$ line is that fsx will be available for windows xp users aswell as vista so it has to support dx9.0 in the final release. For dx10 users there will be some performance/graphical improvnments as M$ have also said that fsx will take advantage of vistas new fetures for better graphics.

As I'm never getting vista I will just have to see how it looks under xp or WINE (if I ever get it to work).

Don't worry Kipman, as I myself am a compulsive buyer of new sims and games, I'll let you know how FSX is when it's finally released to the public. ;D
