FS2004 No Disc installation

Postby Jaypee Dippel » Fri Mar 11, 2011 7:34 pm

Hey, can anyone direct me to the tutorial for 'no disc' installation of FS9? It allows you to operate FS2004 without inserting Disc 4 in the disc drive. I think it might be one of Opa's Tricks & Tips.

Wwe always allowed discussion on the subject and now actually would promote the No CD patch as FS2004 is so old now and could hardly be called an 'illegal' file anymore (hands up anyone who hasn't actually got the No CD patch?  ;D ).

We decided to host the No CD file again late last year  as it was a fairly silly error on the part of M$ to make the use of the CD necessary.

I must have been thinking of AVSim.

there are still some people out on the net, and on here, that still stand firm on the necessity of using the disk 4 to play the game/simulator and not use the "crack".

these are just my $0.02 on the matter, but as was posted earlier, anything that allows you to NOT have to use what the designer intended for you to have to use, is indeed a "crack" / or work-around, and by Microsoft's EULA it would be "Illegal".

However, now that the software is more than 7 years old, I seriously doubt that Micro$soft is really going to give 2 @#$%^ if you dont use the 4 disk.

It is just my personal opinion, YES you can find the "FS9 NO-CD CRACK" on the net if you search for the words as i typed them between the " ", but just dont tell anyone that you are actually using it.

There are a lot more file sharing that is going on than a lot of people will admit to when it comes to Video Games / Simulators / other programs.  There are a few sites that are out on the net to where you can find practically EVERY Payware craft/program/scenery and you can get it for free. I WILL NOT GIVE YOU THE SITE NAME, SO DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO ASK WHAT IT IS!!!! If you know it, thats good... keep it to yourself.

Actually Avsim and Flightsim do not allow the NoCD patch to be discussed.

Very anal in my opinion.

There is a reason, and that is most of the major FS sites enjoy a pretty decent working relationship with Microsoft, don't want to draw the ire of MS's lawyers.

Sorry I asked.                                                                   I have a registered copy of FS2004 and just wanted to re-install it as to not use disc 4 to play the simulator.        FSX does not require that a disc remains in the drive while using it.
I did'nt know I was about to do something criminal.

Like Pete said, it's likely not that big a deal anymore. AS LONG AS YOU PURCHASED a [glow=yellow,2,300]legal copy[/glow] of the sim, I don't think there is anything wrong with it. :)

...yet have no problem re-distributing original Microsoft files from their file libraries, in blatant disregard of the EULA.

Redistributing some files will only help people who already have FS9 installed but have corrupt files.   With the no-cd patch, one person can purchase FS9 and install it on 10, 50, or 1000 computers and they all then have a working copy.   The rationale for such copy protection is obvious, but requiring the disc in the drive is a poor solution;  I think most of us prefer keeping our cds safely stashed away rather than shuffling them around on our desks inviting damage.

Mentioning CD cracks, after having two CFS CDs do so, I most certainly agree with that; although a number of my programs no longer require the CD in the drive, I've had and kept original CDs for my programs.
