Best 747 sim?

Postby hhomebrewer » Tue Jan 11, 2011 9:14 pm

I have an internet friend who was a 747 captain. He misses it. What is the best sim for him to get back into the left seat? Would he be mortally bored by the default sim? Says he was bored flyin' the real thing, so we have an uphill battle, here. Thanks.

Add: What would be a good flight control stick?

Hate to go to payware right out of the blocks.... but it is the strong opinion of a lot of people that the PMDG Queen of the Skies 747 is about as good as it gets.

I agree with the above comments.
The best one has to be the PMDG 747. This addon is now a legend in the history of FS9.
The former payware, now freeware "747 Ready For Pushback" concerns an older version of the 747 if I'm not mistaken. Might be interesting to look at, since it's free :)
The last alternative is freeware as well, it's the iFly 747, but I'm pretty sure it's far away from the level of the PMDG.

First link from google, searching "simviation ready for pushback".

EDIT: and I confirm that the "Search" function in the SimV library doesn't return any results when searching for "ready for pushback"  :-/

I asked him to check us out in an email I sent last night. He wrote back today to say that he has spent so much time in full-motion simulators that sitting in front of a computer would be rather anti-climactic. He says that if you take a check ride with an FAA inspector in a heavy jet type and pass, you can then add type-certs in the full-motion sim of that type. All you need do is three take-offs and landings to a full stop and you get the type. Crazy, huh? He says they throw failures at you until you want to puke. I forget right now how many hours he has in The Big One, but he flew it for twelve years. He is fascinating to talk with via email, and we have spoken over the phone. He's been there, done it, seen it, flown it, eaten it, drank it, hunted it, shot it and lived to tell about it. I wish my life was 1% of what his has been. Craziest thing: He has only one eye. I would have never thought you could fly an airplane weighing 800,000-some pounds with one eye...

Ready for Pushback was on one of the pages that failed to convert into our new system.

Has now been done manually
