FS9 crashing w/ UTX installed

Postby Mr._Ryan » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:50 pm

So I installed FS9 and without testing it out immediately installed UT for FS9 Europe. Well, I tried flying my first flight in Germany and she no work. When I would go to "Create a flight" and put in my airport in Germany and click "Fly Now," it would get to the point where it would say "Loading terrain," and then it would crash at anywhere between 50 and 60%. I did some research and couldn't find anything; then I tried flying in the US. It worked fine! Then I installed UT-FS9-USA and now it's crashing at the same spot for the US flights, too, so it's obviously a UT-FS9 issue.

This is the error message I just got when it crashed:

The first thing that comes to mind is that UTX (Ultimate Terrain X) is for FSX.
The UT (Ultimate Terrain) series is for FS2004.

Maybe you can get a refund or exchange.

If/when you do get the right version, make sure you run FS2004 at least once after install, before installing UT.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Duh, brainfart. I do have UT for FS9 installed, not UTX. I'm just so used to playing and dealing with FSX that I wrote UTX without thinking.

Any other ideas?  :)

OK

Then the fact you installed UT before running FS2004 at least once may be the issue. FS2004 does build several files the first time it is run.

My suggestion would be to uninstall in reverse order, (UT, the FS9.1update if you installed it, and then FS2004), and start over.

Or you could check the UT support forums for a solution.

Not a bad idea, although I had flown successfully in the US before installing UT-FS9 for the US, and after I installed it the crashing began, just as with the Europe files. I've done a lot of searching online and I'm not alone with this issue. I'm going to try deleting all the texture files and copying them in new from the CD first, then I might do a full uninstall. What a PITA.
