Adding scenery under windows 7?

Postby Zaphod » Mon Nov 08, 2010 6:48 am

Hi Guys and Gals.
Since installing FS9 on my new PC it has become really hit and miss when adding scenery. I navigate to my Addon Scenery folder (using settings, scenery library etc) where I have placed the add on scenery and highlight it, press ok and nothing happens. I've tried navigating to the scenery and texture folders contained inside the downloaded file and still nothing happens. Then out of nowhere I'll do exactly the same thing and yippee it works. I'm at my wits end!
I have UAC turned off in Windows 7 so that's not the problem and it's not just happening with one particular download.

Any help appreciated.

Zaphod.

OK. I finally got the scenery to install although I'm not really sure how ::) Apparently I'm required to type something into the dialogue box at the last stage of the process (scenery, texture folders displayed). Then the scenery shows up in the list albeit without any name, but at least it's there and available.
Clearly I need to revise the method I'm using.

Zaphod (the confused).

Zaphod, this is a well-known bug related to Vista and Seven.
When you click the OK button, just click anywhere in the white area below the "scenery" and "texture" folders. That will "unlock" the situation and your scenery will appear on top of the list ;)

It is a known "bug" in Win 7.

These resources explain how to add scenery -

This explains it with pictures.

Also a very good video showing the process:

Hope that helps.

Thanks Opa.
I tried the "click anywhere in the white area of the window" tip and it didn't work for me, but the second surgestion of editing the comand line in the "directory" box works fine.
I thought I was going mad there for a while.Glad it's not just me. ;D

Cheers.

Ah, interesting... I thought it was the same behavior for FS9 and FSX, but it looks like I was wrong once again :P
Glad to see someone could provide the real solution :)

start flight sim

go to SETTINGS / Scenery Library

ADD AREA

navigate to your addon scenery folder

click on the name of the area that you want to add to highlight it. -- down below there is a box that you can type the name of the area in if it does not show up.  Type the name in the box and it should start to show up.  if it does with the file path, then FS9 is reading it correctly.

Hit OK.

Restart the sim to build the new scenery files.
