General FS9 Question - Number of Aircraft

Postby turbofire » Fri Oct 15, 2010 2:29 pm

I am not having any problems, but am becoming concerned at the number of aircraft I have in my FS9 Aircraft file.  Does any one know if there is a limit?  I currently have 296 aircraft in the file, and all are able to be flown.  Lately, however, I kind of squirm when adding additional aircraft.  :-?

the actual number of aircraft that can be installed is only limited by the amount of disk space that you have available.

HOWEVER!! I have learned, that the more scenery and aircraft that the sim has to load or even think about, the slower it is to respond to certain queries.

what I mean by this, is when you first start up Flight Sim, if you have the default 20 or so, with no addon scenery, it will load through the "splash screen" fairly quickly.  Now if you have 2,000 aircraft, 400 airport sceneries, landclass sceneries, REX (weather and ground enhancer), Ultimate Terrain and all of it is running, the longer it will take to load up.   if you are already flying, and you hit ALT > AIRCRAFT to change planes, it will talke a lot longer to read and load the 2,000 aircraft vs. the default 20.

Now, if you have WOAi (world of ai), ProjectAi, .. any kind of AI; the higher number of craft that you have flying in your little virtual world, the longer it will take to load and show those craft not to mention a possible HUGE Processor chip hit in order to process each of their movements, paint, GPS Position, and all of this WILL affect your FPS.

Out of the couple of dozen aircraft I have collected over the years, I reckon I only ever use a couple of them regularly...

...the rest are just a waste of space on my Hard Drive, and sensibly, should be deleted/removed!

I try to avoid being overly obsessed with downloading, and installing lots of Aeroplanes....just for the sake of it!... :o...!

Well TF, let's put it this way. I highlighted everything in my aircraft folder (to get a quick count), and not including the six items I have there that aren't aircraft, but including AI, I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1070 folders there at 60.7GB. :o

So at 296, you still got some catching up to do! ;D ;)

Paul, I thought you knew better than to use the word sensible in reference to flight simulation. ::)

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

..... ;D....!

10/10.... ;D...!

That explains the obsession with the claim; " My Weiner is much bigger than yours!"

Paul... ;D... ;D... ;D...!

With my Cessna 150, guess the significance of my "bodily part" in this discussion... :-[...!
