Enormous building on the runway

Postby Pieter G. Wijtsma » Sat Aug 28, 2010 3:26 pm

There's an enormous terminal-like building (many miles wide and several hundred feet high) right across the runways at KSEA. Impressive, but not what I really wanted. I copied all "World" and "Cities/Seattle" scenery and texture files from my FS9-disk, but no luck. I haven't any special add-ons for this area that might have messed things up (I think). Just an AFCAD-file for the airport and the Puget Sound Ferry Traffic add-on. Besides, I installed these add-ons some time ago and this problem just started occurring last week. I didn't make any other changes that I can remember for the Seattle area. Please have a look at the screenshots. I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me how to get rid of this thing...... Thanks in advance!

The most likely culprit is any add-on scenery that you put in the sim that has stuff inthe northwest.

It is also ANY scenery that has some sort of coruption or error in the location of a building.

Try uninstalling any scenery addons one at a time and check each time you do that.

best,

What have you added in the way of scenery recently?

There have been reports of several strange items showing up at KSEA and all were traced to scenery add-ons in other parts of the world (no where near Seattle).

Apparently one or more of the "object placing" utilities which designers use have KSEA coordinates as a "default" setting and simply forget to enter the proper coordinates when saving their file.

Try disabling what you may have installed in the past few weeks - if the building goes away, then start re-activating them a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Good Luck!

The method you suggested works! It turns out the problem was caused by two addon airports: New Delhi and Chennai, many thousands of miles away. Would you believe it.....Even after many years of using FS9, there's always something new to learn. I (reluctantly) deleted the addons and everything is back to normal at KSEA.

Thanks very much to you both: there are always people with valuable ideas here!!

Glad you got it sorted out.

Yiu might want to check the Avsim library as the author of some airports in that general region has just uploaded fixes for some of his airports and those fixes might allow you to use the airports in question.

I do not believe he has made those fixes available elsewhere.
