Help with FS2004

Postby AndrewB11414 » Thu Aug 12, 2010 3:15 am

Hi im Andrew and im having trouble with my FS2004. I installed it but it only got to 90% of the download (world.cab) and i kept trying it over and over again but no luck. Could anyone help. Also when it did install correctly the first time it would start up and go through the usual prestart steps but when it maximized the program to get to the main "getting started" page the screen would turn black and then it would close the program. Any help would be appreciated.

It would be helpful if you would tell us what Operation System you are using - XP, Vista or Win 7.

Also provide your system specifications.

...like Opa says...

..also, is the copy of FS 2004 you have, a new, or old boxed copy of the Sim, or a second user, well worn (damaged) version?

Does your CD ROM Drive have any problems with loading any other CD's?

Paul.... 8-)...!

Andrew,
By "it only got to 90% of the download (world.cab)", I assume you meant "it only got to 90% of the install (world.cab)", yes?

Like Paul said, it does sound a bit like yours disks may be dirty, or the drive may not be reading them right. Missing or corrupt texture files have been known to cause CTDs like you're exeriencing.

Remember some of the scenery files are really big. The world.cab file is no different. It may seem like the install is hanging, but that might not be the case. Try doing a complete uninstall, reboot, then install again. BE PATIENT. Remeber, the install needs to decompress about 8 gigabytes of data. When the install gets to the "world.cab", just let it go for a good while. You may find that it's just taking longer to finish than you thought.
