.AIR files...?

Postby Capt.Propwash » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:05 pm

I have the Dodosim Bell 206. While it is an EXCELLENT craft, I hate to say it but I can never get the thing airborn without the sucker turning into a Mini-tornado.

yes you can, as long as you keep the name of the .AIR file the same. But that is not garuanteed that your heli will behave as you want now. the characteristics are a mix between the .AIR and the Aircraft CFG. For example, your Mach envelope is controlled by the .air file, while I have to adjust the engine thrust in the cfg. otherwise the aircraft wil "run away" as the JBizz does, if you remember that tests?

The point is, you can change it, and you will see a change n handling, though not necessarily what you want. you can also use AIrEd to alter the .AIR file.

Then again, I might be able to take the textures from Dodosim and just add them to the default and add the correct [fltsim.XX] entries to the .cfg

Not likely.

Well, you could copy all the data from the default CFG to your model, except for the first part as well as the contact points?

My understanding is that the payware Dodosim model is the same as the freeware Owen Hewitt B206, except for the

Capt.Propwash, I wouldn't try swapping the air file! The dodo uses some crazy technology, and the air file for it, I'm sure, has some very important settings that other air files don't have. It's kind of hard to explain.

Also, set the difficulty level to "1" and in the VC where there is the group of buttons on the left of the main panel, there is one icon that has a "T" on it. This is training mode. It goes through the startup for you. Very quick. And starting it yourself doesn't take that long if you have difficulty on 1. I start it by hand all the time, and have no problem.  ;)

wingz and Hughes, I'll take a look into both of your suggestions.  I like the look and sounds of the helo, just I HATE the way it flies.   Start up is not really my biggest concern, its the "tornado" that it wants to do on lift off.   Yes I know that I have to play with the AXIS Assignments to get it to try to fly the way it was meant to, but I should not HAVE to change anything just to fly it.   The designers on this, in my eye, botched this craft to hades and back - every other designer that makes helos can get them to fly correctly in the way that FS is programmed to work, but yet these guys i guess couldn't get the coding right.

In defence of the Dodosim model (which I do not own):
I'm not sure how you came to have this expensive and complex model, it's not meant for the casual simmer at all.
For mass consumption, Owen Hewitt made the freeware B206.

I'm told the Dodosim is the closest you'll get to a helicopter simulator, on MS Flight Simulator.
