FS9 Framerate problems

Hi gents,

I have got some problems with my framerate when playing FS9.

I have a pretty good machine: GeForce 295GTX, i7-2,66Gh, 6gb Ram, 1Tb HDD etc. but it doesnt run very well.

With not even everything maxed out, only a littlebit of scenery and all (also no AA) the framerate drops and climbs all the time, and when over a city, not even a major one, framerate goes down to about 40. When in the mountains it goes from 40 to 80, it just keeps fluctating.

Any ideas on how to improve this?

oh yes, and this:

I have a 360 Controller for windows and I want the View (look left, right, up down etc) to be controlled with my right joystick, but it wont assign it. it will only choose the D-pad

Lock your framerate to about 24-28 and enjoy the better ecenery rendition.  Ignote the framerate counter.... it is not about framerates... it is about the smoothness of the flight and the scenery details.  Getting 40 fps out of fs2004 is great.  YOu are wasting cpu cycles on frames when it sould be used to improve the simulation.

I like the outside view alot and I love a nice scenery, but I can never live with frames under 30. Even from 80 to 50 I can notice and it annoys the hell out of me.

Also, when facing the air in my F-16 cockpit, it stays at a steady 60 frames. But like a few seconds in, it suddenly drops to about 30 for a few seconds, than goes back to 60 for a longer period of time before it does it again. Annoying as hell.

Some say it isnt possible to detect those kind of frame fluctuations, but that is horse **i*

The fluctuations are visible, but if you lock the frames at say 30, it will look and run a lot smoother.

Horse - ?? You must hate watching TV! I doubt that TV manufacturers wordwide would agree with you since the PAL frame rate is 25 fps and NTSC is only marginally more at a hair under 30.

Tv has got somekind of blur between the frames, pc's (or whatever) have not.

But that wasnt my question. I just want to know if i can improve my performance, and how I can get that view button assigned!

You are just not hearing the answer you want to hear.  Getting 40-60 fps in flight sim is excellent, more than most other people.  But to get it to run smoothly, you will have to limit your frames, end of story.

I just find it a tad strange that a 6 year old game doesnt run on a brand new 2010 computer. I really thought it could be fixed.

and I would KILL to have 40FPS, let alone 20.   I can barely squeak 15! and that is locked at 25, looking at a 1am CLEAR sky.... no ground.   My FPS range from 14.9 down to 3 depending on craft and where i am flying and clouds.   Im da*n happy when it hits 15.

I have an AMD quad core processor, with 8G of RAM and video card with 1G of RAM.  I am lucky to get high 20s-30s for frames, with sliders not even maxxed out.  Flight sim is very resource intensive, for the reasons listed by Shane.

here is the funny part though.

When I max everything out, AA, max autogen and all the FlyTampa StMaarten ad-on scenery and the standard cessna frames go through the roof, never dropping below 55. But when I select a downloaded aircraft... Well, all those nice frames seem to dissapear.

Clearly my rig is up to the task to create glass smooth images with the stock planes but not with the downloaded ones.

That's because the stock planes are of a much lesser quality than the addons, and don't affect your system as much.

Less polygons, lower quality visuals, etc...

That would be Microsoft's smart buisness practices in action.   
By not making the defaults as good as they could have been, they are able to run easily on a wider variety of hardware configurations.

That's why I can fly Posky planes all day long just fine, but my system comes to a crawl if I load up a PMDG plane.

What kind of computers do the ones who fly FSX with all the eye-candy turned on have?

I sometimes see videos on youtube with some very nice framerate, extremely pretty graphics but with a pc who's hardware is 'less' good than mine.

Cant wrap my head around it
