No wide screen support for FS9?

Postby Black ZR-1 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 9:37 pm

I was looking for a wideview setting in the FS9.cfg file but no luck. Is there a "WideViewAspect=True" setting you can set in FS9 like you can in FSX?

FS9 doesn't have a widescreen setting - but I've found that it's not a real issue at all - in fact having flown with a widescreen laptop and desktop for a couple of years, I've found that it's preferable to the 4:3 standard (even if the gauges aren't circular).

In any case, it only applies to the 2D panel: the VC and outside views are not distorted.

While the outside view is not distorted, to get the same view out the window you need to change the ZOOM factor.  While 1.0 zoom on a 4:3 monitor is the correct setting to get the proper proportions, on a 16:9 monitor the correct zoom setting is 0.75.

The way to calculate that is:

Standard Monitor:  4:3 = 3/4 = 0.75

Widescreen Monitor:  16:9 = 9/16 = 0.5625

Widescreen ratio/Standard ratio = 0.5625/0.75 = 0.75

So 0.75 is the correct zoom factor for a 16:9 monitor.

This assumes that the outside view stretches from on side of the monitor to the other.

Hope this helps,
