Library priority list ?

Postby gypsymoth » Fri Mar 19, 2010 6:16 am

1 = Does it matter how high or low an addon is in the list?

2 = What do these 11 entries mean/stand for?
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=96.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=0.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=0.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1

I was wondering if changing any might solve my disappearing objects problem.... :-?

1. The lower numbers (most recent additions) are loaded last; so tha default stuff is superseded by the more recent addons.

2. This is my TERRAIN section, with no disappearing objects:
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=10
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=10
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1

Maybe yout default and extended radii are too low at zero? Also, you might have overlapping sceneries that may be conflicting.

Thanks for that - I'll give your numbers a whirl.

Interesting about the priority.   Does changing it mean that complex sceneries need to be lower down ?

Note that the layer numbers (etc.) in the scenery.cfg file are often inverted from the listing order in that file.

1 is better than 150 is what I understand so far but does it matter?

It matters a lot if you have more than one scenery for a given area or airport.  You use the scenery layers to control which one has priority.

OK.  I have, say, 50 individual add-on airports.  The 50th is loaded before the last installed at No. 1.   Do they all appear with the same clarity, or definition, eg. ?

....I always get confused by this "Priority" malarkey.... :'(...!

Each scenery add-on I install gets stuck at the top of the list automatically, with everything else getting pushed slowly towards the bottom of the list....including all the Default "stuff"....

Is it OK to leave it like this....or should it be re-arranged in a different order?
...or doesn't it really matter?

Paul...ever curious... ;)...!

Default Scenery etc, ......VOZ, FS Global, STRM Mesh, Land Class, add-on scenery, etc..

It depends on the type of scenery. It used to be easy enough to figure out but there's so many different types these days. Generally speaking I would put mesh & similar "global" or "regional" scenery below the individual airports (local scenery) on the Scenery Library list.

I recall some scenery by a certain prolific author had all the textures in one "master area". This would need to be arranged below the others in the series for it to display properly.

Please note that I'm referring to the Scenery Library listing - Not Scenery.cfg. This can be confusing unless it's pointed out.

Adding more water to the soup - default ends up on the bottom ( highest number), then comes Mesh, usually tied into your default world scenery.

When you say Landclass, when I installed Don Grovestine's wonderful CYYJ (2009), it came with a Landclass folder which is at a higher number (1 in fact) than CYYJ airport, as per instructions.
