Paul, any particular reasons why you're not operating with the 9.1 patch?  :-? :)

If you placed the update exe file into your main Flight Simulator 9 folder and ran it from there (as opposed to running it from a temp folder elsewhere), there should have been no errors.  This is the procedure MS recommends.

Thousands of us have done it without issue and I believe the update is well worth installing.

Your decision of course.

Oh I did that but still got lots of scenery error messages. I even posted a question at the time but it got far too complicated for my simple mind so I decided that the benifits didn't outwiegh the problems.
Perhaps I'll re-address it when the mist clears and I'm having a good day.
Who knows ;D ;D

OK...
Just too clarify. I summoned up the courage to try the FS9.1 patch again and this is what happened.
First it failed with the error message "could not find the display.cfg file. It may have been modified or be missing" (or something like that) so I replaced my display.cfg with the original which fortunately I had re-named and saved. I then tried again, and although it got a bit further it failed again but without an error message. It just said "The FS9.1 upgrade could not be installed successfully." I then thought, is it possible that there may be something on my FS9 that uncle Bill might not approve of, so I removed that but the installation still fails around about the "installing (or is it up-dating?) modules stage.
I should add that I have been using an original install of FS9 since 31 January 2004 without ever having to re-install (I can't believe I've just said that) but have fairly extensively modified it with add-on a/c, scenery and general tweaks.
As previously stated, the patch isn't really a major concern although it would be nice to see if the "memory leakage " issue would improve my frame rates and reduce the jaggies which I sometimes experience.

Anyway, going to decend back into a haze for a time.

Best.
Zaphod.

Edit;
Sorry Fozz.. Missed your post. I think we are of the same mind as usual. Perhaps it's something they put in the water in the UK?

Best.
Zaph.

Well done Zaph...

I feel we can now both continue to enjoy the infinite delights of the v9.00 Patch, with no further embarrassment, and feelings of gross inferiority... :)...!

I've had FS9 for longer than most people on this forum. Never had a single problem with it so I've never tried installing the FS9.1 update.  When I saw this thread I thought it was about time I bit the bullet. It turned out to be quite painless & took about 5 minutes. Whether I notice any improvement remains to be seen.

After reading the included Update Readme I wonder if this might explain your problems.

Hi Hagar.
I not quite sure I'm understanding this correctly. The original FS9.exe I was refering to is version 9.0.0.30612 and is 1.32mb in size and as far as I'm concerned has not been modified as it was replaced by the version about which we are not allowed to speak but which has the same version number but is only 504kb in size. :-?
When I tried to install the patch I had the original version installed.

Not to worry Hagar. Fozz and I are quite happy as founder members of the Dinosaur club for FS9 ;)
